You know. There's something to be said for recruiting those kinds of kids and teaching them how to play the game and molding them into being young men. It's a noble calling and I can understand a man like Tubby Smith gravitating towards building a program centered on doing that.

But that sure as heck ain't what he's being paid 3+ million a year to do. Sorry.

I do not see a lot of positives in this post. Markel possibly leaving, wasted a schollie on ineligible player. Keelon returning is blah, unless Chandler and compny are guaranteed to sign.....

Mama Lawson has said just because Keelon works for Memphis is no guarantee that Chandler will sign with Memphis.

Mama Lawson must repeat herself a lot. Either that or posters on here get bored.

@mgiannotto Let's be clear: All of this was rumored to be going on behind the scenes. My guess is only one of the three (Lawsons, Crawford) are back.

@mgiannotto If you're keeping score at home, that would suggest Tubby Smith can't definitively say if both Lawsons or Markel Crawford will return yet.

His language isn't very inspiring.

Instead of "we're looking at a few jucos" or "we've heard from some grad transfers", etc.

Maybe he should be more demonstrative and confident - we're going to sign some good players and put a team on the floor that Memphis will be proud to cheer for.

I know he's not a salesman and that's fine, but jeebus he needs to put a much better positive spin on everything at the end of the season press conference...it literally gave zero hope or promise for the future.

I like his honesty but I also don't think he should have singled out TUBBY STYLE Players. If I was on the team and not on the list I would be like WTF am I.

Look at it this way, the Tubby Style ones are the ones that are definitely staying.

If the others don't stay, they weren't Tubby Style, so no big loss.

See how that works. lol

Hope you're right but pointing to Rivers (a bench guy at best on a good team) and Clergeot (a guy who shouldn't get major minutes until he's a junior) as his type is disconcerting.

And now, two of his targets are JUCO's who aren't even starting for their respective teams. If you can't start at the JUCO level, what are the odds of being halfway productive at the high D1 level.

That's the concern. These aren't Burrell/Woodson/Omar Sneed level JUCO's that appear Memphis-bound.
