MyBB CJ Anderson at UMass...
I work with a relative of C.J. - this person told me that C.J. is trying to graduate early and transfer. FWIW.

Averaged 5pts., 3 rebs., and 2 assts. in 22 mpg as a Junior. Shot 36% from 3.

RE: CJ Anderson at UMass...
I'm sure Tubby will balk because the kid probably has a relative within a 25 miles radius.

BUT

This is the kind of move that would be smart.

The 3 man HS class.
A few JCs
A few grads

RE: CJ Anderson at UMass...
Get the UVA G grad transfer and the UMass G/F grad transfer, both from Tennessee.

Get Davenport.

Get McNeal - also from Tennessee.

Get one more big - grad/standard transfer or JC.

It goes back and forth.

Right now they have 3 to give though. I imagine 4 at the very least, but you never know.

I believe last year's team had 11 scholarship players, so we have 2 open from the start...

For sure gone:
1. Chad (big)
2. Craig (wing)
3. Kessee (guard)
4. McDowell (big)
5. Open scholarship
6. Open scholarship

Probably/Maybe gone:
7. Dedric Lawson (big)
8. Markel Crawford (wing)
9. K.J. Lawson (wing)

We have 3 spots taken already. So, I can see us adding anywhere from 3-5 more guys.

RE: CJ Anderson at UMass...
Not asking them to reinvent the wheel either - 2 grads and 1 JC are all from TN, heck, 1 grad and 1 JC are basically from Memphis (McNeal is from Jackson).

Two other JCs out there from Memphis - Adarius Avery and Jerry Hurt.

Other JCs out there from Georgia, which is supposedly where Tubby has strong ties - Brewton, Davenport, Thornton.

Basically just asking the staff to pull their share from areas they should be able to recruit.

RE: CJ Anderson at UMass...
KJ isn't going to go anywhere. He's already sat out a year, he doesn't seem like the type who likes to sit out esp when he's done that already. Also if his brother and Markel are gone, he is now the go to guy, he'll love that. Back to Markel who I feel like he has too much of Memphis in his heart to leave however I kinda hope he does . . . he's a good kid and deserves to win in his last year. I mean all he's been through with injuries (Everyone basically backing off of him when he got hurt in HS, except for CJP), sitting out a year to get healthy and the improvements he has made. More players need to follow his lead, a coach saw something wrong with his shot and instead of doing what he's comfortable with (and something that for the majority of his life he was highly successful with doing it his way) he worked on the mechanics of his shot and improved drastically.

1000 shots a day in the summer for both and they can be really good pieces.

You can say that again. And the first person who should belly up to the table like a man and admit he was wrong would be Jason Smith. If Dedric does come back I want to hear "I was wrong, plain and simple", not some bs saying I was right at the time but this happened...bla bla bla.

Here's my problem with putting that out Vinnie, it doesn't help the team while they are in the middle of playing out the season. It's a major distraction and makes it hard to keep everyone on board. I know if a member of the media had did this to Larry, he would have been pissed. He would have cussed the media person out privately. I would assume Dana and Cal wouldn't of liked it happening to them either. Even If Jason knew 100% that Dedric was going to leave, he should have sat on it and kept the info to himself out of respect to the coaches and team.

Jason Smith doesn't care about that in the least. It was sort of a definitive scoop for him. Everybody referenced his comment. All the shows, everyone here, etc. It was publicity for him. Jason Smith, a tuned in guy with inside knowledge of the program and its players said "this" so everyone ran with it. It may turn out to be accurate, we shall see.
I tend to believe that Dedric will do like he did last year and test the waters and go from there. That would be what I would do if I were him. Then, let the chips fall where they may. I, however, agree with Vin. I think he comes back.
I have a bigger issue with the self appointed know it all peter edmiston taking it a step further by assuming that meant Keelon and KJ would go as well. To me that was worse than Jason's comment because it was a brash assumption. He didn't talk to either KJ or his dad, he just made an assumption and declared it. Others did too, in fairness, and some still believe that.
Bottom line is, we will have to wait and see but the negative BS we see from some will likely continue long after these decisions are made.

I can't imagine how stressful that could be for Keelon. KJ too.

Tubby could help to prevent this by going on their talk shows every so often. This would be good for their ratings. If someone screws him over with this type of story, he could cut off access. I dont live here, so I dont know what type of interaction he has with the "press", but tbat is the only way that I know for him to try to control what is said. I know Cal & Pastner were on a lot (they might still be on Memphis sports radio more than Tubby) and Norvell seems to do a lot. Tubby needs to promote the program, that is part of the job. Get these guys on his side and make sure they know they will lose their access if they betray him.
