Isnt this basically the type of player you wanted him to bring in during the late signing period last year after he got hired?

No.
And more importantly, even if I said "yes" it would have been because he had limited time to assemble and needed to get a body or two for depth.
In this case, they are a month from the regular signing period and only have three nondescript guys locked up from November.
Coach BAM! should be in on a lot more college ready players than this, especially with how the season went down.
Now he's tussling with Manhattan (who was 10-22 and 5-15 in the MAAC this year) for some kid who doesn't even have a recruiting profile on Rivals and 247 just created one for him yesterday.

I don't think there is anything wrong with overturning every stone.
My problem isn't checking out under the radar guys and doing an evaluation, it's taking nearly a year to check out 4 stars in your own backyard.

He's 10 months into recruiting at Memphis. At most, Memphis likely has two or three scholarships available. We are late in the recruiting period and he's scouting so kid that Manhattan just discovered.
Yes, he has a fantastic Youtube video (so does Kaleb Castro, btw).

Just googled him, and looks like he has visited UConn, and has offer from Buffalo.

He apparently visited in august. No offer from UConn.
He did also get offered by LIU-Brooklyn to complement his offer from Manhattan.
https://the-boneyard.com/threads/2018-re...ick.96274/
He's also listed as 2018 although he (I think) is now a 2017.
Despite the power of google, there is very little info on him.

Looks as if a stretch 4 (shooting?) is something the staff is really looking at the the 2017 class. If that is the case, Kyvon Davenport should be the #1 target. We may have some hefty competition there.

I'm shaking my head at you, yes, one of the best posters here.
I'm shaking my head at you because, while I understand your disappointment in the season, I can't figure out your judgement of this coach after one season. To me, it's just mind boggling and completely void of perspective. Clearly, Tubby is a proven commodity as a basketball coach and likely hall of famer. Let's let the guy get some time under his belt before we crucify him. I don't think 10 months on the job warrants any kind of judgement yet. Let the guy recruit the players HE wants. I think he's a better judge of the talent he wants then you and me and a bunch of scabs like us on a message board. After that, then we see what happens. He's got 3 talented guys coming in and will likely add 2 more. Maybe 3.
I prefer to let him do his job before I give a cheap seat perspective.

Three talented guys coming in?
Based on their recruiting rankings (which have historical comparative value) one of them will end up being a 10 and 4 kid by his junior or senior year, one will be a 4 and 4 guy, and one won't make it beyond two years.
Looking at some of Enoh's box scores, he scored 0, 4, 6 , 4...in recent games. Nickelberry has had a strong year and Johnson has a good rep but both those guys can't be expected to perform next year.

And we'll soon find out. THAT'S when a more judgemental mindset will make sense. Let's see what happens, which is the only thing we can do.

Some (many) of you need to get it thru your heads, that Tubby isn't going after the same players that Cal and Josh did. He simply isn't, no matter how much you moan and groan.
Tubby will build a team with blue-collar guys, that will buy into his system.
His team, in a year or two, will resemble Cincinnati of the past couple of years. They will never look like a Cal/Kentucky team with loads of 4-5 star guys.
The sooner you come to grips with that, the better for your mental well-being.

Cinci has three 4* on their team right now. And a top 20 JUCO. And a 4* transfer.

And that's fine as long as the school and the boosters don't mind 4-6K at the Forum for another couple of seasons.
The reality is, the slow build wasn't what was needed at Memphis.

And? How long has Cronin been the coach there? Not sure how relevant your point is to Tubby and Memphis.

Agreed but one year doesn't make or break anything and certainly doesn't constitute a "build" of any kind.

I said Tubby's teams will look like Cincy, in their style/make-up.
He "might" have a couple of 4 stars. But, they will be 4 stars that fit his system. They won't be the 4 stars that are looking to be one and done college kids.

OK. That's your opinion. And, that's fine.
But, whether that is what was "needed" or not, that's what it is.
Tubby is not going to try to bring in several 5 star guys, in an attempt to "quick" build it.

Because he can't, not because he wouldn't want to. Who wouldn't want to load up on the best talent?
