RE: IT'S FINALLY TOURNEY TIME
Actually, UNCW is UVA's worst nightmare.

A team that can hit the three ball with regularity has the greatest shot at defeating the Pack Line defense. That defense is set up to deny the inside pass, dribble-drive penetration and any close in type of scoring (which would negate Cakok's effectiveness), but if a team can stretch that defense and make them defend the three point line consistently, the Pack Line becomes eminently beatable.

I think this is one of the best first round matchups UNCW could have gotten. UVA does not have as much quickness as the Seahawks and have struggled, mightily, on offense of late. If UNCW can start hot, shooting the way they did in our game, and get inside the heads of the UVA shooters, it could be Katy bar the Door.

As a person living in a city where they fawn over UVA at every turn, that would be fine with me.

Good Luck Seahawks!

RE: IT'S FINALLY TOURNEY TIME
UNCW got a favorable draw IMO. UVA and Florida don't have much size and don't have dominant big men, which means it is less likely Cacok gets in foul trouble. UVA's defense isn't as good as the past few seasons

Big question is what UNCW will do when they can't cry to the refs and get calls.

I feel bad for them after the con job the A-10 pulled. The committee knows.

Congrats to College of Charleston for the NIT bid, though not unexpected.

They got a 5 seed - which means they are a road team, at least 1st Round. They are matched up at Colorado State.

UR got a 6 seed, opening at Alabama.

Tough travel for Charleston. Game is Tuesday night. Not much prep time. Good Luck to them.

I agree that UNCW can beat UVA and to me not such a big upset if they do .
Congrats to Notthwestern !!!! They have an interesting match up with Vandy . These two schools in some ways mirror each since they are both private and are considered the "brain" schools of their respective conferences.

IT'S FINALLY TOURNEY TIME
Northwestern alum Stephen Colbert had a few choice words for our beloved Tribe and the other "forlorn four" earlier today.

Interesting Colbert was Northwestern and Jon Stewart WM. I wonder if JS will have a rebuttal.

RE: IT'S FINALLY TOURNEY TIME
Can someone explain to me how, in the NIT, Colorado is a #5 and Charleston is a#5, and Colorado is going to UCF, and Charleston is going to Colorado St.?

Why did the NIT committee avoid a Colorado at Colorado St. matchup, and send Charleston across the country?

That is actually discussed on the UNCW board. Colorado played Colorado State already this year and UCF played Charleston this year. Not sure if that should make a difference but that is likely the reason why.

I feel bad for them after the con job the A-10 pulled. The committee knows.

NCAA Selection Committee chair went on the record to state that Rhode Island was in regardless as an at-large if they didn't win the A-10 final. A-10 was getting 3 bids regardless of the results of the championship game.

https://twitter.com/CDiSano44/status/841059805909401600

Committee chair Mark Hollis just confirmed on Westwood One that @RhodyMBB winning the A10 auto bid bumped Providence into First 4 in Dayton.

https://twitter.com/CDiSano44/status/841061679551127553

Hollis also said that Rhode Island would have been in the tournament as an at-large bid, so they essentially swapped with Providence.

Banished to the west, huh?

If making the NCAA tournament regularly but not being close to home is akin to being banished, we'll take it. Those are first-world problems.

VCU,
The chairman going on record after the fact means nothing. Politicians do that on a daily basis. Res ipsa loquitor

I'd follow my Tribe to Djibouti to watch them play in a NCAAT game so heading out west in the good ol USA would amount to nothing more than a welcomed mini vacation. That's a nice problem to have year in year out.

One Tribe. One Family.

If the chairman of the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee says a team was in regardless and you choose to run with a fan conspiracy theory instead, I don't think anything can convince you otherwise. There is literally no more authoritative source on it that exists.

We are agreed on the latter part of your statement. I remember folks on here exulting in VCU losing an exhibition game against a D2 opponent and declaring the imminent demise of VCU Basketball. I'll take VCU having to go to Salt Lake City to dance for the 7th consecutive year, all things considered.

Here's to the Tribe one day having to grumble about the massive inconvenience of having to travel somewhere for the NCAA tournament.

In the NIT.....

Clemson blew a 19 point halftime lead - at home - and lost to Oakland of the Horizon League, 74-69.
