RE: 2017 schedule released
A schedule thread and 0 predictions? I get it Wed night MACtion sucks. I probably can't make it to CMU game.
How about 8 wins and Minnesota wins 6 and we get the showdown everyone wants to see in some crap bowl.

RE: 2017 schedule released
I'm still sticking with 8-4 (2-2 OOC, 6-2 MAC). Tough to say, though, as so much will depend upon how quickly and effectively our passing game gels.

Switch cmu with Ball State or Akron and it would be a lot better. Not playing Miami or Ohio, in the regular season, will help. 8-4 is my minimal expectation.

RE: 2017 schedule released
I hate when they put CMU at end of year. It is always great experience when earlier in the season. Good weather, and neither team is out of the race for the MAC West. I especially like the early season CMU games at Waldo. Can show off our stadium, campus, and game day experience to all the obviously envious chip losers, who walk away realizing how pathetic they have it.

8-4 minimum. 7-5 would be a failure.

Otherwise they wouldn't be playing these ridiculous mid-week night games in November - ESPECIALLY a big rivalry game like Western-Central!
Because the TV money is a sure thing and the fans are fickle in the MAC. Attendance sucks conference wide.

RE: 2017 schedule released
Not a fan of midweek Chip-stomping.
I made it to the BSU (yay for Muncie being <2 hours from home) and Akron road games last year, along with Georgia Southern and NIU in Kzoo. Plus the MAC Championship and Cotton Bowl, obviously.
With all the midweek and road games being >3.5 hours away, it's not looking like I'll make it to quite so many this year. That and the newborn we'll soon have in the house...
Also, as usual, G-Cal's updated: http://www.csnbbs.com/thread-464103.html
(with placeholder midday/evening times for now)

it all depends on the QB. Competent QB we win 8 at least, if not, who knows.

I will wait until after Spring Football (not just ours) to hazard a prediction.

CMU Wednesday night game will definitely keep a big crowd from showing up, especially if the weather is bad, people / students will stay home and watch on tv

Yeah... the MAC took the one game on the schedule that usually has the largest turn-out and made it all about the TV rights... Basically saying they don't care about rivalries. I will never understand how those decisions are made... (i guess its possible they took a poor date and figured that it would still draw a huge crowd due to the rivalry)... still sucks.
I would have rather had ESPN on campus at a time when we WOULD fill the stadium and show the country what MAC football rivalries are all about...

Destruction of G5 football continues by ESPN. When ESPN pulls the plug
on MACTION, the fan bases and attendance will already be decimated.

RE: 2017 schedule released
Yeah, it sucks CMU game is on a Wed night in November.
Good news is, if CMU is halfway decent, we could have an OK crowd -- and even despite CMU being decent, there'd still be few CMU fans there than normal. I'd rather see it on a Fri night or something.
Having Toledo & NIU away + last two games -- we could be 6-0 in MAC play going in and Will obviously in the race for #1, even if our season isn't so great. It at least gives us Time to adjust under the new coaching staff, for the biggest 2 games at the end of the year (I'd count CMU, but I don't think CMU is going to be so great, plus it's in Kzoo).

If there was any MAC game to draw a crowd on a Wednesday night on national TV, it would be the CMU vs WMU rivalry.
Weather, records, and unknown factors will determine the size of the crowd.

Considering we packed the house on the day after Thanksgiving in the freezing rain against Toledo, we may be ok.

I think being ranked and undefeated going into the last game of the regular season might have had something to do with it.
I don't think we will be ranked and/or undefeated going into the CMU game this year.
