It's not so much what his rants were about here, although he did b--tch out the fans over their attendance, as it was about what he DID while here, from his rampant infidelity to his throwing young student-athletes under the bus to his throwing games to his trying to steal players as he left the building to his lovely wife clearing out their university account with a $15,000 spending spree at Oak Hall while the whole town begged him to say. Yeah, I don't miss anything about the SOB. I hope he rots in hell.

Trashy, unfactual post. If you have facts from "for people in the know" post them. I know a lot of good he did not only for our program but for average fans. Things that would blow you away if they were publicized that were about as kind as I've seen. And a lot of late night travel to do it.

Does the late night travel involve trips to mud island?

What's a bigger urban myth ? Mud Island or the hot dog stand ?

Fact: Cal played a drug addict (Sean Banks) until he could no longer do so because the "student athlete" flunked out of school.

Fact: Cal reinstated a player (Jeremy Hunt) he had "permanently dismissed".

Fact: Cal left two schools on probation.

Those are just a few highlights that are 100% factual. There are many, many more stories even if they aren't public record.

Cal goes out of his way to belittle UMASS and Memphis. He'll say how he did things at those schools that they don't do (win a lot of games). Do you hear guys like K, Izzo and Brad Stevens talk about their former schools like that? For instance, has Brad Stevens ever said how hard it was to win at Butler and how he took their program to new heights? No. He says he loved his time there and is grateful for the opportunity and how it made him who he is today.

Cal is disliked by fans and his peers alike not because of his success, but because of his actions and his personality. There are coaches who have had far more success than him and they aren't nearly as disliked.

Did most everyone here get swept up in the success during Cal's tenure? Sure. But there were plenty (including myself) who still didn't like Cal or what he stood for.

I'd take a guy like Norvell over Cal any day. Norvell probably won't achieve the type of success that Cal did, but he'll still be very successful. And he is a good guy, doing it the right way.

I have no idea what Norvell is. Right now he's winning and that's good enough for me.

Penny, every issue 21-17 mentioned is common knowledge. A big time Kentucky fan, a sales rep, walked into a big Tiger supporter's business in EARLY March and bragged that Cal would be the next coach at Ky. I listened to Cal's radio show(the last one) BEFORE the Missouri game and he spent nearly half the show thanking people, saying how much they enjoyed their time here but things change. My first reaction? He's talking like he's leaving. If he had not gone to Ky, it would have been Arizona...somewhere. Obvious we couldn't win that game, it would mess up the timetable.

Remember when Ky didn't make it to the dance a few years ago? Cal made a big deal to say he would be recruiting in the New York area that first tournament weekend. (Hint to CBS and ESPN, he wanted to be the guest coach commentator in their studio to review the games. Neither one bit.) Despite the success, $$$$, and honors, there will always be a dark cloud over Cal for what happened at UMass and Memphis.

It could have been worse. We could have won against Kansas and then have the ncaa take it away.

So your theory is one more weekend would have been a dealbreaker for KY? I'm not sure Cal was zeroed in like he always was that tourney (I was in KC where we won 2 and destroyed Maryland and Vasquez; but Sallie had to bail us out in opener).

Still didn't list anything illegal; a braggart, radio show comments, etc. incriminating stuff.

I've told several stories that are quite lengthy; one quick one: a salesman who sold to my company had season tickets in upper level (I think) had grandson with cancer; Cal had heard about it and called John Doe occasionally to see how he was doing and went to see him in hospital. Finally his little body was about to give out; Cal was in NYC for speaking engagement the next evening. Flew into Memphis went to LeBonheur and consoled the family; called the next morning. flew back late night to NYC that night. Went to funeral a few days later.

This was an average Joe-not a big donor or politically connected; just a long time Tiger fan. Cal had compassion for people that many lack on this board. No one knows this story but family and a few others.
