Nope. Commit a felony lose the right to vote or own a firearm for life.
Don't do the crime if you can't do the time...(time includes your liberty for the duration of your sentence as well as the loss of the right to vote and own a gun).

Nope. I'm a firm believer in the 2nd Amendment, but no.

The last thing America needs is a bunch of convicted felons running around with guns.

The justice system is fallible and not all felonies are indicative of violent tendencies.

RE: Should convicted felons have gun rights?
No No No. Absolutely Not. And that entire article is full of all kinds of stupid.
Quote:The State Board of Pardons and Paroles restored firearms rights for more than 1,400 felons between 2008 and 2013, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Sunday. The board restored gun rights for 666 people last year, which is 10 times the number of pardons that restored firearms rights six years ago. The overall number includes 358 felons who were convicted of violent crimes, 166 who were convicted of drug crimes and 32 who killed another person. Between 2008 and 2013, the board denied about 700 applications from felons looking to have their gun rights reinstated.
Are you freakin' shitting me? These felons convicted of violent crimes and actually killing other people had their firearms rights restored? What idiocy is this ****? This is 100 times worse than giving these criminals their voting rights back.

Yes. It is a constitutional right until further notice and once someone has served their time they have paid the price and regain their liberties. At least thats how it should be.

I don't even know what to say to this, but....here we have someone who is supportive of murderers, rapists and people convicted of crimes against children to bear arms when they get out of prison. Utterly ******* insane.
The hypocrisy of the people in this board is stunning.

RE: Should convicted felons have gun rights?
No, at least not for violent offenders. Our criminal codes have overreached in a few areas, so that a number of offenses are technically felonies where nothing violent, and in some cases nothing even malicious, was done. I think drawing the line at violent felonies is probably correct.

RE: Should convicted felons have gun rights?
If a crime is heinous enough then they should be either in prison for life or on parole in which case I wouldn't have issues restricting some rights.
I take issue with restricting Constitutional rights when people are supposed to have been freed from their sentence. That's what rehabilitation and freedom are about.

I just wish we could get guns out of the hands of all the convicted felons that have them now.

I'm perfectly okay with nonviolent felons to have their rights restored. Felonies that did not result in violence or malicious actions against other individuals. But the data is there, the State of Georgia is giving felons convicted of violent crimes their gun rights back.

So you're ok with a sex offender having a the right to conceal carry. Got it. These people aren't in prison, because for some reason (And I know what reason), violent sexual crimes against women and children don't carry heavy sentences.

The problem there is with the criminal justice system (and that system has PLENTY of problems).

RE: Should convicted felons have gun rights?
So I found this little nugget:
Quote:18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(1). It says that anyone "who has been convicted in any court of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year" is barred from possessing a gun. The only felonies that are not covered by the federal gun ban are 1) those "pertaining to antitrust violations, unfair trade practices, restraints of trade, or other similar offenses relating to the regulation of business practices," per 18 U.S.C. § 921(a)(20)(A); and 2) felony convictions from foreign countries, per Small v. United States, --- U.S. ---, 2005 WL 946620 (April 26, 2005).
So these felons and the State of Georgia are violating federal law, no? Or am I missing something? Does this mean that if a fed comes across one of these felons they get put away for ten years?
Quote:The penalty for violating this law is ten years imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine.

LOL. Of course it exempts white collar rich a$$hole crimes but not other nonviolent offenses.
