They have been few and far between since the hot start to the CAA schedule, but great to see the guys rewarded for their efforts. They deserve it.

Now, go get another one Saturday night at Towson (on CSN TV).

Whew. Nerve racking win in OT 95-92 as W&M misses a 3 at the end.
Nice upset by the Dukes even if the Tribe are a terrible road team at 2-12.

Using 7 total players ain't going to get them far in the CAA tournament.

If those 7 guys can play like they did tonight - especially in the 1st half - then let's roll with 'em Saturday night up at Towson.

I spent a lot of time earlier in the season defending Rowe, but I honestly can't say yet whether the problem this season has been his coaching or if it's the fact that some of the guys on this team wouldn't even get to play on most Division I teams. Or maybe it's both. They try hard and don't give up, but this team sucks. Big time.

that was a great game, bumped into MH and got to talk to him for a few, one son won a layup contest, my other son got a T shirt from a cheerleader for waving his "3" sign, Dukes got the W, it was a good night.

Game was totally Dukes-ish. We were totally gassed in the last couple minutes of regulation. You could totally script everything that happened in that game. I'm surprised we pulled it out... but a win like that can help build some confidence. who knows. We are so Dukes-ish.

The Dukes are only one game out of avoiding the Keener round at the CAA tourney. However, 6th place Northeastern has the tiebreaker so it is effectively a 2 game gap with only 3 to play. It will take a collapse by NE for JMU to have a prayer.

IMO, that matters significantly in tournament play. The CAA has never had anyone win 4 games in 4 days coming out of the Keener round. There have been some low seeds that have won 3 games in 3 days though.

Good win. I like the fight in the team. We have shown enough for me to be optimistic about next year.

From and X's & O's standpoint. Is there anything Rowe could have done to stop the constant drives to the hoop in the second half we gave W & M? Is our team just not able to play man defense well?

A zone stops those easy drives to the basket and can help protect guys in foul trouble. But it's vulnerable to a good 3 shooting team. I thought it would have been worth a try to stop giving up do many easy baskets.

I think W&M is tough to defend- they run their offense well and move and cut a lot. They also have multiple 3 point shooters so I think man to man is primarily what teams play against them although I saw Coach Rowe mix in some type of zone at some point. Some of the defense had to do with the personnel- they played 7 guys- my guess is Brown's back was acting up and that's why he didn't play. Was a little surprised not to see Holmes a little more but at times Chabarkaba was a liability on defense and Johnson's in experience out there led to some missed assignments.

Rowe, refuses to use much halfcourt zone even though he is well aware of the lack of lateral quickness because it doesn't fit his energy and effort mindset.
Brady spoke to the lack of lateral quickness last year as well and said that is exactly why he used a lot of 3-2 zone. It was extremely effective guarding the 3 and it minimized blow by penetration on the dribble.

Rowe has been fixated on trying to reinvent the wheel when he already had a proven defensive scheme that the boatload of experienced players were very good at.
Perhaps he is sandbagging now and will unleash the 3-2 zone in the CAA tourney? We can only hope.

With the emphasis some put on 3s over 2 on offense I think you have to apply the same on defense then too right? I kind of subscribe to giving up the 2 over the wide open 3. JMU did just enough in terms of fouling guys when they were going to the basket contesting and at times even blocking shots to make it more difficult for W&M to score than just launching 3s. We've seen plenty of those games where Dixon and Thornton before him just killed us with 3s.

Hart they play elements of zone defense in every game. I see it with my own eyes. He mixes up defenses- half court, full court, pressure, man, double, zone.
