That's why it's a waiver...

I knew you guys couldn't resist talking about us. HaHa

I suspect your athletic departments were already hearing from us by phone this afternoon. We don't have much time to schedule three home FBS games for 2018 much less the fibe needed for 2019 and beyond. My hope is that we get some home and home deals with some of you guys. That way you can play us without Tom having to be associated with us.

The NCAA is on no footing to face a challenge. We had to demonstrate ability and lack of opportunity in roder for them to see that the confereence invitation clause was not a good place to find itself legally. Outside of NDSU & JMU, I don't think there are any other FCS schools who could make similar waiver claim. But it would be good from Liberty's perspective if they did since we need scheduling partners.

It'll be tough. ODU will want to play you guys but we're booked through 2021

Smart move by ALL of us is to treat them like a FCS team. But I'm sure some of us will bite on scheduling them.

Here's the openings for road dates for FBS OOC

USA - None till 2023
App - 2019, 2020. UNC isn't on that schedule though
Ark State - None till 2020
Coastal - plenty of openings. Dumb move to schedule them though. Treat them with 'separation'
Ga Southern - None till 2020
Ga State - None till 2022
Texas State - None till 2020
Troy - plenty of openings
ULL - 2020
ULM - 2020

---

Here's CUSA

UAB - 2020
LTU - 2021
ODU - 2021
UNT - 2022
Rice - 2020 (but kind of unlikely)
USM - 2020
UTEP - has an opening in 2018. None in 2019,
UTSA - 2021
UNCC - 2024
MTSU - lots of openings after 2018, but they need 2 payday games
FIU - has an opening in 2018 and after 2020
FAU - 2023
Marshall - 2019 and after 2022
WKU - 2021

----
Army has an opening for a road game in 2020, but they like double FCS games
BYU has an opening for a road game in 2019
UMass has openings
NMSU has openings

---

WMU - has openings. Has teams asking to schedule them.
Toledo - 2020
NIU - 2022
EMU - 2021
CMU - 2021
Ball State - 2022
Ohio - 2022
Miami OH - has one slot in 2019, and after 2021
Kent - 2019
UB- 2021
BGSU - 2020 and after 2022
Akron - 2019 and after 2020

Obviously, someone is willing to go to Lynchburg or the NCAA wouldn't have given them the waiver. I think that there's going to be fewer SBC/CUSA teams on that list that one might think. My guess is that they will be playing NMSU twice in the same year in 2018 and 2019.

They should be on the phone with every CUSA school possible. They'll need as many easy wins as possible to pad the record to have any outside shot at all of a bowl game.

For the record, we had Coastal's back through their transition. they have been our traditional rival and would make a ton fo sense to schedule once again. And we have a long history scheduling with App. This will be a big challenge for us to get date son the calendar considering we didn't know that we would be looking for dates until this afternoon.

I don't think bowl eligibility is really on our radar right now. I'm sure it will be at some point but we are focused on FBS viability right now.

Not talking **** at all. I think it's wise to try and pick up easy FBS wins if you're going to try and make a run at it as an independent. So they should schedule teams from the worst rated conference in FBS football. It's logic, not smack talk.

Most sbc schools are scheduled years in advance. Good luck finding non independents willing to play

What the hell is the point in being in FBS if you aren't focused on bowl games?

Bowl games are basically the only reason I'm so freaking pumped about Coastal being an FBS program now.

What you just said is exactly why the sane Liberty fans don't think this is a good idea. But hey, this will be super fun for me to watch.

If you're expecting me to have a meltdown....don't. I think the meltdown will be over on any given Saturday and (delayed) over at JMU's board when they realize that JMU still won't pull the trigger.

Just good-natured ribbing, Tom. The only way I see you having a meltdown is if your school dropped an FCS guarantee game in exchange for being paid to come to Lynchburg. Now that would be fun to watch.
