If they want to go the Indy route, financed by their 7 million online students and the NCAA is okay with that, more power to em.

They will be every bit of the also ran at the FBS level as they have been at the FCS level.

Don't think they can do it long term. Thinking of the schadenfreude of lurking on the Sun Belt board....05-stirthepot

If they're given the waiver to get in, all they need to do is make it work as an indy till the next time the MAC or SBC need a new member.

I don't think they'll be lacking for resources, but unless they buy two FCS games a year, I'm not sure they'll be able to put more than 5 home games on the schedule ever. I don't see them getting many home and homes, they have no leverage.

Any school that doesn't average 20k a game needs to be booted from FBS. If you're in FCS and don't hit that number (basically only Montana and JMU), you need to stay FCS

20k is rather arbitrary. Why not 25k? Why not 30k?

I'm not all that concerned with how many butts are in seats at any stadium other than my own.

If a program can afford FBS ball and find a conference that wants them(or get a waiver), I see no need to put affendance requirements on things.

That 15k rule was never enforced and any time it was even discussed programs just found creative ways of getting the number there.

I worry far more about budgets under $20M than I do stadiums with less than 20k.

Well since they got a waiver, what's to stop others?

Which is what we've always told them, sounds like they're getting a waiver, did you even follow the link?

They have far deeper pockets than most FCS schools.

Unlike most FCS programs, Liberty can afford FBS ball today, maybe even as an independent, but I just don't think it will work logistically.

Again, what reason does any program, especially a P5, have to go to Lynchburg? Especially on a home and home?

I'm not particularly interested in playing them, but if they call us for a home and home, we counter with a 2-1 and they say yes, I think we'd at least have to consider it.

I suppose if Liberty wants to pay the ULM's and NMSU's of the world for paycheck games, maybe they could make it work, but their deeper pockets are literally their only asset.

A fair reaction I'll grant, but I digress...apparently they're getting a waiver.

ODU will schedule a H&H with Liberty for sure. Maybe longer term. Our AD was very complimentary of their program when we played in FCS. I think also there's a desire to raise our University's profile in the Western part of the state. UMASS and NMSU will be glad for a partnership for late season games. It'll work out for them.

It would suck for us if we do that. I hate them moving up as if there are not enough independents and FBS is already watered down.

If your AD doesn't use Liberty's lack of leverage against them they're not doing their job.

You're right, which is why the idea of them going independent is more feasible than with nearly any other FCS program.

You can have all the tradition, success and fans as you want, but without money, you'll never make it as an Indy.

Shhheeesh, they could probably have a higher athletic budget than Alabama if they wanted to. Hell, they could probably easily afford to schedule a home game with Bama if they wanted to. Just one of a few reasons they never received an invite from the SBC.
