Dont think this means NMSU is overated or worse than we thought. It means Bakersfield is better than we thought. A lot better. Cant wait for them to meet in the WAC Tourny and see who can get the #1 seed

Last time they lost, Aggies followed it up with a 20 game win streak. I'm sure they'll be focused and ready to go for their next game. Anybody know who they've got Saturday? 03-wink

Thx CP. The win streak is something to be proud of.
The Ag's didnt look bad, IMO, just that the 'Runners were up for this, home court and all. I haven't seen the stat sheet yet. Ian Baker's the real deal! He's who I'd worry about the most. The first quarter was really the backbreaker. I was sweating out the 2nd, dreading that another notorious 0-XX run would occur that CSUB has been prone to.
I'm wagering that a likely tourney final is up for grabs now. Wagering too that a lot more CSUB fans will make the drive to Vegas.

Lastly, over the past 7 years or so, most all 'Runners-Aggies games have been fairly close, competitive. I expect that to continue.

I think it's the team Lopes fans are obsessed with, right #beatNMSU twitter handle?

Bakersfield attendance this season (Icardo center seats 3427)

San Diego Christian (NAIA) 1566
UCSB 1897
Fresno State sold out
Pacific Union (NAIA)1699
Portland St 1733
Bethesda (D2) sell out
Seattle U 2967
Utah Valley sell out
NMSU sell out

Interesting how 1 tournament appearance sparks such new life into the program and how many more fans are showing up. The attendance numbers have steadily grown all year too. (Side note: the UCSB and Portland State games were during holiday breaks it appears). Looks like we have a 3rd team in the WAC with GCU and NMSU getting strong attendance numbers. Great to see

Aggies played terrified. Huggins was a non factor, and everyone else played stupid. Right now CSUB is the front runner for the WAC title. We better fix things or we will lose to GCU by 20 on Saturday night as well.

I feel, that in reality we should be up in the 5-6k range, and thus, playing at Robobank. But, true, things may be starting to take hold and people believing. The more good teams we have, the more schools will see attendance gains.

Several years ago, attendance didn't justify it. It's Condors-land these days, along with Blake Shelton and Elton John.

About a week or so ago I watched Fordham and....cant remember who. Anyway, it was at Fordham. Their field house held a few hundred less than the Icardo, IIRC. But, the atmosphere was great! That's how people here feel. I don't know how many would have gone tonight. Would have been interesting to see attendance had it been held in Robobank.
Also, small-ish as it is, there's also a sentimental attachment to the Icardo, which came around the time of CSUB's DII heydays...the national championships were. Im sure that factors in as well. We loved the noise that was generated there in bigger games.

I think it's the team Lopes fans are obsessed with, right #beatNMSU twitter handle?

I update it at the end of every game to our next opponent. Thanks for noticing. I don't think GCU fans are any more obsessed w/Aggies than NMSU fans are w/Lopes. I mean, Frank has been tweeting under @aggiesOWNlopes since long before conference play even started. You, a grown man, seem to enjoy spending time trolling GCU kids on Twitter, so who is really obsessed with who?

It will be fun banter for a couple days, the game will be played, then most normal fans & adults will move on to the next opponent. For GCU, that will mean figuring out how to play better on the road and get one from SU in Seattle.

Travel safe and enjoy the game, Aggie fans. It will be the last time NMSU plays the Lopes with literally nothing on the line (from GCU perspective).

Any plans to renovate it or possibly expand it? The on campus aspect blows a bigger hockey arena downtown out of the water imo, but at the same time the Icardo is both small and not in good shape looks wise. Granted, I've never been there, but from the TV it looks like wooden bleacher seats and just aged well past its prime.

Being nitpicky here, but can they please get rid of that McDonald's logo? How much do they get paid to have that on there? A logo on the court for sponsorship is one thing, but why does it have to be McDonald's of all companies?

I dont have too much room to talk though. SU still has the Key Bank logo everywhere and on the arena while Key Bank hasnt paid for the sponsorship since 2009

From CSUB Facilities site:
"In Summer of 2014 the facility underwent construction again which included a new ceiling and walls color scheme matched to compliment a newly redesigned blue floor..... Wood bleachers on the north side of the facility were replaced with contoured plastic seating complete with the Roadrunners logos.....Additional seating and improvement plans are in the works for the facility."

FWIW, I think it feels larger when one is actually in it, but yah, agree it looks small on TV. I think we've covered the expansion thing before....don't think there's room, but...maybe something in the works as the facilities paragraph mentions. Ive heard nothing though. I do think the next step might be to move back to Robobank (or the Centennial Garden, the name it was given when built, and that I personally still use around town here)
But really, up till last years mid-season a the earliest, MBB wasn't really the ticket it is these days. So....a little more of what we have going now, maybe a year or two away from a move back downtown. But...we'll see. Our baseball foul poles are marked....with the Golden Arches too...sorry.
With the nature of the WAC 2.0, we have seen some smaller, little-known schools evolve their programs, and perhaps more schools will.

BTW, AHL hockey draws around 4,500 on typical nights here.

Congrats Bakersfield. I think you guys are onto something good over there. Keep up the good work and hopefully we'll cross paths again in the conference tournament.

Oh, I have little doubt, Vegas looms. This year, if it happens, no "tough to beat a team three times" issues.
We both can't look past other opponents till then though. Good luck rest of the way.

Currently mobile....but not necessarily upwardly.

Just a minor correction here, Bethesda is Bible school, not even regionally accredited. (TRACS Bible school national accreditation). They belong to the NCCAA - the National Christian College Athletic Association. But they aren't a terrible team. Pretty good for their level.

They are located in Anaheim, which is a few hours away from Bakersfield. While I am not a Runners fan, it could be they ran some sort of promotion for that game? The school is very small and would have brought very few fans to Bako.
