RE: Official Game Thread: @ VMI
VMI 3-8, 2-7:
These guys beat Western Carolina at home by a single point, 79-78. OOC their only win over a D1 team was at home over 7-14 Charleston Southern by 5 points. So how on earth did they go on the road and beat Chattanooga by 16, 80-64?

As noted before, only 7 guys on this squad average over 8.6 minutes in conference, or 1.6 points or 1.4 rebounds. Only 2 of those 7 guys are over 6-4 or 200 pounds (6-6 205 Armani Branch, and 6-6 205 Trey Chapman). They are physically overmatched by just about every other team in the SoCon. And, with one or two exceptions, they do not have superior athleticism or skill to make up for the lack of size. They do have the remarkable Sr. Q.J. Peterson who at 6-0 leads the team in both scoring (21.9) and rebounds 6.3 and a good second guard in 6-3 Sr. Julian Eleby with 13.4 points and 5.2 rebounds. Led by Peterson scoring 40, they beat the most physically imposing team in the SoCon in Chattanooga.

They are 2nd best in the SoCon to the Citadel in 3 pointers made in conference with 9.2, with a shooting percentage of .337. They are 2nd worst in rebounding margin with -6.0. In most stats they range from the mid to low end of the conference. They average -8.8 points per game, one of only 3 teams to average negative points - the others of course are the Citadel at -10.9 and Western Carolina at -13.4.

Play these guys like we played Lees McRae and we could lose. Play them like the Mocs played them and we would lose.

Take care of business, Bucs.

[Yes, this reads like my VMI post on the Halfway through the SoCon thread - because it still is]

Guards:
6-0 185 Sr QJ Peterson; 32.9 minutes, 21.9 points, .438 from 3 (28-64), 6.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 2.9 t.o.’s, 1.8 steals
6-3 190 Sr Julian Eleby; 34.6 minutes, 13.4 points, .324 from 3 (22-68), 5.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 2.6 t.o.’s, 1.1 steals
6-2 170 So Adrian Rich; 27.2 minutes, 4.6 points, .143 from 3 (3-21), 1.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.8 t.o.’s, 1.0 steals
6-0 170 Fr Keith Smith; 23.7 minutes, 5.1 points, .308 from 3 (8-26), 2.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.9 t.o.’s, 1.0 steals
6-4 200 Fr Garrett Gilkeson; 12.2 minutes, 2.2 points, .190 from 3 (4-21), 1.7 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.8 t.o.’s, 0.2 steals

Front Court
6-6 205 Sr Trey Chapman; 23.4 minutes, 9.7 points, .375 from 3 (6-16), 3.2 rebounds, 1.1 t.o.’s, 1.0 steals
6-6 205 Jr. Armani Branch; 19.9 minutes, 10.7 points, .500 from 3 (11-22), 4.4 rebounds, 1.7 t.o.’s, 1.3 blocks
6-6 205 Jr Fred Iruafemi; 8.6 minutes, 1.3 points, 0 3’s, 1.0 rebounds
6-8 210 Fr Will Miller; 5.6 minutes, 1.0 points, 0.8 rebounds
6-10 245 Fr. Tyler Creammer, 6.7 minutes, 1.6 points, 0 3’s, 1.1 rebounds

RE: Official Game Thread: @ VMI
After a major three game win streak, and knocking out the Mocs on Saturday night, this could be a potential trap game. I hope that they remember what VMI did to the Mocs as well when going into this game, otherwise they could have trouble. While not the biggest game of the year per se, I would say that this is one that they need to win.

Whlie this isn't a game-related post, it *is* interesting that ETSU visits in the wake of this visit:

For those of you who have the capability to multi-watch, remember, UNCG is at the round place, and C of C is at UNC-W tonight.

I was getting ready to brag on Payne then he misses his block out allowing a second chance three followed up by an ill advised runner into the arms of the defender.

I hope. We can't afford to lose this game.

UNC-W up 1 on C of C at the half.

UT-C all *over* UNCG in the middle of first half, 24-10.

Could sure use the Williams of a month ago right now. However, Forbes has lost all confidence in him.

I NEVER saw what you did in Williams, he seemed like a typical freshman, showed some flashes but usually seemed timid and folded to pressure like a cheap suit.

Before you start talking about this drive or that drive or some pass, I mean timid when challenged. I would not want to rely on him to bring the ball up the court against a press.

RE: Official Game Thread: @ VMI
Perimeter shooting and tough-minded D offered the remedy in this one. Kudos to VMI for their improvement.
