I loathe ...
... people on Twitter who most OBVIOUSLY follow just for their specific subject matter expertise and then they take it upon themselves to FREQUENTLY AND ROUTINELY espouse their opinions or positions on topics for which they are NOT subject matter experts. It is inconsiderate and an abuse of the informal agreement between the tweeter and follower. It is a real shame because I gain value from said people on many occasions, but their refusal to stay on-topic makes following them untenable. And I don't accept the argument it's their "personal Twitter account" when they outwardly advertise it and associate it with their public value in the cited area of subject matter expertise. It's like a "bait and switch" routine. Why do I care what they think about world politics, religion, etc ? They know it and I know it - I followed them for sports. Why on earth would I care what they think about other completely different topics ?
Just my 2 cents. I've had to unfollow a few.

I'm sure they are upset you unfollowed them. So upset that they rant on message boards about it.
