RE: Big basketball game Saturday
Frazier is very fired up for the basketball teams! He wants them both to be MACC more than anybody on this board. If you want to see this for yourself come out Thursday to the bball coaches show

Then it's time to act like he cares. To be honest going to the Convo for a basketball game leaves me with the impression no one gives a damn in the athletic department. Many of us have been waiting 20 or so years for a return to the tournament dekalb. It's just frustrating to see how little of an effort is put into the basketball game day experience now compared to the 80s and 90s

In the '80's & '90's nobody gave a rat's a$$ about the "gameday" experience. They went to see the GAME! Hot dogs didn't matter, in game promotions didn't matter; all that mattered was the product on the court. Alas, times have changed and in order to get kids from behind their multiple screens and devices, it takes sizzle. Marketing at NIU needs to get their sizzle on. This team shouldn't be a difficult sell. Just work at it.

FREE TIP TO WHOEVER RUNS CONCESSIONS:

Have a seperate Stand for Bottled Water & Soda. ( Monutain Dew sponsor)

1) Some folks are just thirsty and don't need to wait behind people wanting nachos ( & hot dogs). They look at the lines and go back to their seats or find a drinking fountain.

2) Bottled Water costs about 10 Cents and is then sold for $3-$5. If there is a more profitable item please tell me . Oh and it doesn't spoil! Profits will go through the roof.

Why don't they use the marketing department? Have the Juniors and Seniors do a project to come up with a plan to help the teams? My wife was in a GIS class and helped Walgreens determine where new stores should go for part of her grade.

I totally totally disagree about in game promotions. NIU worked its ass off in that department

Not sure anyone from NIU makes that call. Concessions is run by a 3rd party entity, I believe

Completely agree! Use the business school resources for fresh ideas and problem solving. Also, it engages the students in making the university successful.

Then the 3rd or 4th party are idiots.

You and I could bring in 20 cases and clear $1000 profit in 3 hours.

I'm just the messenger, I have no idea how much say NIU has in concessions anymore or if it's the 3rd party organizing and calling all the shots

Any local high school booster club concession mom can tell you how many hot dogs, pizza and pop to order for a their home football or basketball games. They can also tell you how many staff members they need to run a concession stand with no waiting time.

No excuse for this second class operation at the Convo.

So contact them directly or inform NIU of your displeasure? If enough people speak up I'm sure something will change

Anyone that wants to talk to Frazier about all things NIU Athletics and making game day better can come to the bball coaches show on Thursday. He will listen and engage with you about how to make things better.

Speaking of old teams can we bring back a player or two from the 96 team that made it to the tournament?
We should salute them and have them talk to the current team.

Back then the only concessions we had were very salty popcorn and Pepsi. No lines though, and no complaints.

I agree we just came to see the games back then, but we did have some incredible halftime shows. I particularly remember this Australian dude who juggled his small kids from his feet. Never seen anything like it, although it would probably be consideted somewhat abusive today.

We brought a case of beer inside a duffel bag to the DePaul game in 1991. Went after class, got there right at tip off and went to the top of the bleachers. Fun times. 02-13-banana
