Rhett Lashlee-Auburn OC to UConn for same position.
When was the last time a P5 coach went to a G5 school for the same position and wasn't fired by the P5 school?

He has a more level head than Gus, but was loyal. He'll do well. He needed to get away from Gus and learn on his own. They've been together since he was in high school and Gus was his coach.
I think he will do very well for UConn and that UConn will be good for him.

It's not particularly unusual when it's widely known that the head coach of that school is on the hot seat.
It's sort of like being on a sinking ship without enough lifeboats. Those that can get onto a lifeboat quickly enough are safe, and live to tell the tale. Those that wait to the last minute end up going down with the ship.
In this case, Rhett is jumping off the SS Malzahn before it steers directly into the iceburg. Anywhere will do, including a school thousands of miles from his home turf.

You get the impression here that he didn't have a lot of choices. Considering every one of his football jobs has been in the states of Arkansas and Alabama, Stoors CT was probably not at the top of his list.
Now when Auburn dumps Malzahn after next year, he's no longer tied to that mess and could potentially land a better job with even marginal success at UConn.

The American done it before. COACH TUBBS TO CINCY FROM TEXAS TECH AND TUBBY SMITH TO MEMPHIS. The AAC is seen as an acceptable move by more and more coaches and more importantly players

Yes, because that Tubberville move worked out so well for Cincy.

Are you sure there was no chance that he was going to be let go as OC, in a staff shake-up?
Ohio St just let its OC go, and he was picked up by Fleck to be the OL coach at Minnesota. Which is ironic, because last year Minnesota let its OC (Matt Limegrover) go and he was picked up at Penn St as the OL coach.

I think there is a chance that something like this could be true. He worked at Auburn with current UConn AD Benedict and UConn talked to him about the head coaching job. I could see UConn having been a quick and convenient landing spot for him given that backstory. Either way, I think its a good hire for us given the state of the program. Most fans are happy and recruits know his name. He's a very young up and comer with a solid resume. I'm optimistic.

Auburn picked up Stidham, Baylor's QB before the scandal there. What this feels like to me is that they will be bringing in somebody that Stidham trusts and knows to direct the offense at Auburn next year.
I agree that Malzahn's seat is warm. But what Rhett needed was a greater variety on his resume than just years with Malzahn. I think it was a smart move.

Anyone think that Lashlee was unofficially named "head coach in-waiting" for Edsall? That could have been a sweetener for him to leave Auburn for UConn.
Terrific hire for them. To go from Diaco/Verducci to Edsall/Lashlee is like driving a mattress with wheels to a brand new Mercedes Benz.

I believe he also took a pay cut to move from OC at Auburn to OC at UConn.

You would have to see his Auburn contract to know for sure. Sometimes when a coach leaves us and takes a cut in pay, we honor his contract at Auburn for the difference between the two. It may still have been lateral.

Lashlee gets a lot of credit for his offensive prowess, but I'm not convinced he was that great of an offensive coach. Most of the time at his stops, Malzahn has called the plays, and the few times he's been allowed to call plays have not gone well.
There's a reason he wasn't getting any real interest in head coaching jobs.

So do UConn fans dislike PP or BD more?

After this season, it's definitely Diaco for me.

I bet this had a lot to do with his agent wanting him to promote his own brand. If he does well at UCONN. It wouldn't be unreasonable to expect another program to pick him up as a OC or as a Head coach.

I'm surprised the UConn fan base has been so accepting of Randy Edsall. Hopefully he's been humbled by and has grown from his UMD experience.

MAryland is a career killer. Hell they fired the only good coach they had the last 20 years and he won coach of the year. TRuthfully it's a really bizarre pattern when you look at the history of head coaches. Poorly managed football program in about every way.
Bobby Ross (1982–1986)After the season, Ross resigned as head coach. He expressed frustration over the university's failure to improve Byrd Stadium and its associated facilities.
Joe Krivak (1987–1991)In 1989, Maryland tied Joe Paterno's 13th-ranked Penn State. existence.[7] The following season, the Terrapins beat 25th-ranked West Virginia and upset 8th-ranked Virginia. Maryland received a bid to the Independence Bowl and tied Louisiana Tech in what would be their only postseason appearance during this period.[7] Athletic director Andy Geiger rewarded Krivak with a five-year contract extension,[69] but the 1991 season unraveled after a rash of injuries,[70] and Maryland had its worst finish in two decades with a 2–9 mark.[7] After public criticism from several players, Krivak felt he lost credibility as the head coach and resigned on December 6.
Mark Duffner (1992-1996) The team showed moderate improvement the next two years, and in 1995 finished 6–5, which was the first winning record since 1990.[78] However, Maryland backslid in 1996 with a 5–6 record and a struggling offense.[79] Duffner was fired after the season,[72] having accumulated a combined record of 20–35
Ron Vanderlinden (1997-2000)Vanderlinden was granted a two-year contract extension.[87] In 2000, Maryland again fell short of a winning season and bowl game. The Terrapins entered their season closer with a 5–5 record, and again fell, this time in a rout by 24th-ranked Georgia Tech. Vanderlinden was fired the following day
Ralph Friedgen (2001–2010)Maryland rebounded in 2010 to finish with a 9–4 record, including a win in the Military Bowl,[111] and ranked 23rd in the AP Poll.[112] The ACC named Friedgen Coach of the Year, while freshman quarterback Danny O'Brien became the first Terrapin ever named ACC Rookie of the Year.[113] Citing lack of fan support, the athletic department bought out the final year of Friedgen's contract for $2 million
Randy Edsall (2011–2015)Edsall's 2014 Terps finished their regular season with a 7–5 record, comprising a 4–4 record in Big Ten Conference play that put them third in the Big Ten East Division, their Inaugural season in the Big Ten Conference . Maryland ended its season at the Foster Farms Bowl, where it lost to Stanford.
On October 11, 2015, Edsall was relieved of his duties with offensive coordinator Mike Locksley named as the interim head coach for the rest of the 2015 season

I believe Bear Bryant left Maryland on the way to Kentucky. But, I don't think he was fired.
