RE: TV ratings
2014: 1.2M
2015: 1.44M
2016: 1.35M
2017: 1.56M

I'd attribute the uptick to us but I'm bias.

Were prior years games on at noon on Saturday?

Bad weather in most of the country probably would increase ratings

RE: TV ratings
I've been vocal about FBS but I'll also give credit where credit is due...

Here are the CUSA Bowl games and their ratings:

UTSA vs New Mexico - 1.39
Southern Miss vs. ULL - 1.33
WKU vs. Memphis - 1.58
LA Tech vs. Navy - 2.34
ODU vs. E. Michigan - 1.37
MTSU vs. Hawaii - 1.35
North Texas vs. Army - 1.61

We out drew 4 of their 7 games. The three we didn't outdraw: one featured the conference champion (WKU), one featured a top 25 team (Navy), and one...well I don't really know why anyone watched Army vs. North Texas. Outdrew eight bowl games overall. Much more impressive than years past.

Throw in 2 other postseason games on ESPN2 and we most definitely had more combined eyes than any CUSA bowl.

Army has a national following.

Imagine a JMU / NDSU championship game in prime time.

Am I sensing a crack in the Dolley FBS armor?

Is a long run in the FCS championship playoffs >> than the G5 as currently constituted??

Is being the darling of FCS >> an also ran G5

oh boy, what have i done

If we make the national championship every year or every other year, I am all for staying FCS. There is not one season had by any G5 team that I would trade for JMU's season...not even Western Michigan.

But national championships are very hard to come by, even for the best of programs. Being the best in FCS outranks an average year in the G5. Anything short of that leaves you in relative obscurity in the world of college football.

Sam Houston State, Richmond, Jacksonville State, etc...all perennial top 10 football programs that do not get a fraction of the respect they deserve in regards to support and media coverage.

I am never as jaded against FCS as I come off from behind a computer screen but I strive to be the best at everything I do and I expect the same from JMU. And I think the JMU football program is better than FCS football.

Just my two cents...04-cheers

RE: TV ratings
I have never enjoyed a season as much as this one. 2008 was close, but we didn't win it all. I compare our season to ODU's. They had a very good year. Very good. And, what is their reward? Playing Eastern Michigan in a crap Bowl in the Bahamas. It probably cost them money to go.

I just don't think it will ever get any better than the season we just had if we move up. We become Bowl eligible with 5 or 6 wins and play one extra game. Big deal.

We played 4 extra games and won the National Championship. We had about 12,000 fans at Frisco. I bet we wouldn't have had two or three thousand at ODU's Bowl game. Seeing that sea of purple and the all time number of streamers at Frisco will always happen when we are playing for a National Championship.

I believe our high ratings is directly linked to the power of facebook. Word was out there in facebook land to watch the game. And, it worked.

I generally agree with Dolley, but whether it was done intentionally or by accident, biding our time in FCS may have been the best course of action until G5 / CUSA is reconfigured to be more attractive.

Not with a 20k stadium and the NDSU fans gobbling up 3/4 of the tickets, leaving alot of JMU fans who wanted to be able to go not being able to go. I'd rather have NDSU @ JMU in primetime, in the semis, in a packed Bridgeforth..

False.

App St and Montana in 2009 had 2.54.

Yep, this could be a real problem as soon as next year.

Imagine if JMU and NDSU are seeded #1 and #2. Bison fans gobble up all the general seats within 5 minutes of availability in August. They are already booking their hotels now. Don't have confidence Madison fans are optimistic to do the same, and we could end up in a game where they own 75% of Frisco.

I'd attribute the uptick to increased neutral interest while most fans nationwide got "bored" with the NDSU dynasty.

Weren't all of these games on ESPN also, not ESPN2? The FCS title game would've touched 2M viewers if it had been put on the same network.
