I hate to not rank my guys second but I think the overall schedule shows Troy deserving of that ranking. Don't get me wrong. The guys at stAte made one hell of a finish to one crappy start and they did skull drag Troy at home. On the other hand, Tory fought tooth and nail with a P5 that is going to play for a national championship. I don't see stAte being a contender in that game. Thus, I give them nod.
I'll now don my flameproof suit.
Had Troy not had a couple very key injuries and being 5 days after an emotional App game our game with you guys would have been much closer.
Over all I think we had the better year

I was called a troll for suggesting Troy would have issues playing both App and Arkansas State back to back on a short week. It worked out as I thought it would but I do believe, much like Army and North Texas, that if Arkansas State and Troy were to play again the result would be flip flopped. One of those 6 or 7 out of 10 type match-up's, however this isn't basketball.
Arkansas State is difficult to figure out and in a post season ranking are you basing it off of body of work (losing to UCA, losing at Clemson by 6 points) or end of season results?
Till next season

His point might have been interesting the first time he posted it. But when he makes the same post over a dozen times his point sorta gets lost along the way.
Next season when Arkansas State struggles out of conference to begin the season and Anderson is planning on a two QB system or something else that corresponds with "tinkering", his point will be valid again.

regardless of the circumstances, (played App first, let down, 5 days), I've never seen a team ranked higher than the team that beat them by 33 at their home in a big game. (and it could have been more)
I am not bashing Troy on this one, I have a lot of respect for their team and their fans. I do take issue with the logic of putting them above stAte. If the game is played tomorrow, I think stAte wins again.

I think it would be much closer, but we just don't match up well with them. They were much improved at that point in the year and we'd peaked after the Idaho game. We had the bye week and we were "feelin' ourselves" as coach brown put it. We played well enough to win several key games, but we were a better team during our first five games.

App played a different brand of football this year than the two previous seasons in the Sun Belt. Playing Arkansas State on a short week after playing App, which required a come back effort on the part of Troy, isn't small order to fill.
When taking total body of work into account, the weight of Arkansas State's early season blunders is worth more than a single win over Troy. Also, you followed the defeat of Troy up with a loss to Louisiana, whom App shutout.
Brief version: Troy's total body of work is better than Arkansas State's. Also, Troy only lost by 6 points to a team playing for the national championship whereas Arkansas State lost to UCA.

Don't underestimate the power of a short week game after playing what many players likely viewed as the conference championship game. Much like the game against Arkansas State in 2015, App had just come off of an emotional win against Troy in a game that went to overtime.

I don't buy into excuses. Troy got to stay home since October 20 to Nov. 17 when they played Arkansas State. Arkansas State had the same five days to travel to a road game. It all comes out in the wash.
Power ratings and out of conference aside, it certainly feels good to win back to back titles and know that you beat both Troy and App on the road the last time you played them and they were not nail biters.
And yes, since we open with Miami (albeit at home) and Nebraska, we will likely be 2-2 at best out of conference next year.

You played NMSU and rested your starters for atleast half that game... not the same situation. You traveled but really traveling doesn't have that large an impact on a team.
We came out of the App game with several injuries including Chunn. Then our back up plan got hurt in the first play of the game with you guys.

Travelling has an impact or they would not give home teams 3 points in Vegas. Everyone has injuries. Chunn played the entire game. We lost potentially our strongest RB in the first half of the first game for the entire year.
Like I said, it was a wash. Home field advantage is a real thing.

Chunn played because we didn't have much choice. He had plantar fasciitis. And did not play well. But when you #1 guy is injured then your back up plan gets knocked out with a collar bone fracture in the very first play it's gonna be hard to bounce back.
I'd rather have had your situation and traveled with NMSU 5 days before (cup cake game, sorry NMSU) then play App and turn around and play stAte 1 and 2 five days apart.

RE: Final Power Ratings
Your goal, whether some want to acknowlege it or not, is to win championships.
App and stAte both won conference championships. You can then compare overall record to rank App as top power in conference.
Troy had a great year but failed to achieve the primary goal...stAte did. They also were thumped handily by stAte at home. Head to head. So Troy can't claim power slot two no matter how stAte did out of conference.
Nevertheless, something for everyone here. Goals met by all.

It wouldn't have mattered.
stAte was just a bad matchup for Troy. Too many athletes. The stAte defense completely dominated Troy's offense and made them one dimensional. (55 yds rushing. 2.3 ypc )
Troy had a nice team this season, but they aren't yet built to matchup with stAte.
Troy coach Neil Brown summed the game up nicely, "They came in here as champions and they're leaving as champions. We haven't earned that yet."

Voytik entered the game with 6 minutes left in the 4th quarter. We didn't rest our starters for at least a half.

They were much improved at that point in the year and we'd peaked after the Idaho game. We had the bye week and we were "feelin' ourselves" as coach brown put it. We played well enough to win several key games, but we were a better team during our first five games.
Please people, do your homework before spouting off.
Voytik entered the game with 6 minutes left in the 4th quarter. We didn't rest our starters for at least a half.
Troy's starters are as good App and Ark State, their problem was lack of depth, after the App game, they had nothing left for the last 3 games, but they got 2 weeks to rest before their bowl game and no surprise they beat Ohio and looked like one of the best teams in the conference. Once Neil gets a few more recruiting classes you will not see them collapse like this year.
