RE: Rice at ODU Men's Hoops
Tough miss on a 3 by Egor that would have tied the score followed by a questionable loose ball foul on Quez.

RE: Rice at ODU Men's Hoops
FT misses down the stretch bites us again. But overall still a good effort on the road against a good team. Losing Lott and not having Douglas hurt our depth. Quez has two FT's go down and come back out in his last two trips to the line.

Teams will have no probelm of playing us physical since our free throw shooting is atrocious and what is wrong with Evans? Maybe bringing the ball down hurts his shooting.

Rhoades:
"Shot ourselves in the foot today. Thought at times we beat ourselves."
"If you'd told me we'd have 15 offensive rebounds on the road I'd tell you that's a win."
"We gotta make it happen."
"This is a game we could've won."

Not having Douglas seems to be hurting us more than I would have thought. Changes the character of team inside.

RE: Rice at ODU Men's Hoops
When will Douglas be back? I thought Drone playes pretty good. Having 15 rebounds does not help much if you can't make a free throw. (12-31-2016 02:56 PM)GoodOwl Wrote: (12-31-2016 02:52 PM)OldOwl Wrote: Teams will have no probelm of playing us physical since our free throw shooting is atrocious.

If I read the stats right the owls hit the first 3 point attempt of the second half and then missed every other attempt.

Thanks its a work in progress but so much better than the past 20 years.
Would be curious as to what Mike was saying about things that bothered our players and took them out of the game for short periods of time. As for Evans it is asking a lot to score 20 and give out 10 assists, especially your first year as the PG. Thought his shot looked much better today than it has the last several games but teams are really looking to gang up on him inside the lane when drives and he had 3 bad turnovers when that happened.
I thought we actually got good play from Meyers, Drone, and Quez inside. None are big time defensive centers. Douglas is a bit better on the D side but again center will be by committee. We have to stop the passes down low or like today at the end we completely whiffed on the person driving to the basket. Unless you have Shaq or Kareem waiting there it is hard to stop buckets when you are allowed to go untouched to the hoop.

While Bailiff should have been fired, you do have a point about Rhoades. Though worth noting that Bailiff had plenty of slack his first couple years. The voices really didn't start to raise against Bailiff until 2010, year 4. Comparing complaints about Bailiff in year 10 to against Rhoades in year 3 is silly, and Bailiff walked into a roster without much depth, but with multiple NFL players and some good surrounding talent. Can't say the same about Rhoades.
I agree that I t is time to start putting up or shutting up, and so far he is losing to every team with a pulse this year. Yeah, a young team (blah, blah, blah). Need to win some games against teams 150 and better.
Did Rice press much today? Feels like we have been pressing less each year, I thought that was supposed to be a signature of this team? I thought that was the point of all the conditioning?
Still obviously improved from the last 3 years, but we are looking like a 150-200 team, not a ~100 team like I was hoping and predicting.

For basketball you need to win your home games and some away games against the bottom feeders of the conference. It's nice to steal away games against the better teams but it's not like football.
