North Dakota State's 5-year run is over
For the first time since 2010, ND State won't be the FCS National Champion. James Madison upsets the Bison in the FCS semifinals, 27-17.

JMU seems to have already turned down an open spot in the Sunbelt, the MWC and AAC and P5 aren't taking an FCS call-up ...

... so time for a knock down, drag out fight over whether they are going to the MAC (who don't want to expand to 14 if JMU is #13), and CUSA (who certainly don't want to go to 16).

Sun Belt and JMU is over and done. SBC is not inviting again after that charade.

Unless something kicks off realignment, or the NCAA changes the formula used for CFB payouts or CCG eligibility, or the networks decide to start paying a lot more money (none of which appear to be on the horizon right now), the gates appear to be closed.

I'm not sure the Belt is interested in ANYONE from FCS right now, regardless of whether they win in Frisco or not.

If there was a change at the top at JMU and/or with a serious change in attitude from their leadership, AND the Belt had a need for another team, then we'd be foolish to hold JMU's prior attitude against them. Things change and smart people change with them. But there's been no change at JMU. And there's no need from the Belt and I don't think there's any room now.

----

But congrats to JMU

RE: North Dakota State's 5-year run is over
Lol.

We could move to a number of Conferences and immediately be square in the middle or upper tier of budget, attendance, competitiveness and whatever else. We've well proven that on these boards alone.

We lack the will of our leadership, apparently starting and ending with out fearless (read feckless) leader.

I'll give (while many disagree vehemently) the SB is/was not a good fit. But we're now being passed by start-ups like Coastal and the butterfly's., so yea.

It's a good time being in another NC game, something which 88.7% of all 1-A schools can never claim, but it's also time for us to GO.

Thanks for the hospitality buffaloes, keep warm on the couch this off season. 07-coffee3

That was a premise of my comment.

RE: North Dakota State's 5-year run is over
What needs to happen is that a conference needs to split. Maybe C-USA can add two more and then do a WAC-16/MWC. That could be JMU's ticket:

FAU
Louisiana Tech
Marshall
Old Dominion
Rice
Southern Miss
UAB
UTSA

The other 6+2+James Madison (or maybe they apply for a waiver for NCAA Tournament auto-bids and JMU is the 8th).

If the Dakota schools could get a waiver from the NCAA? I bet the Big 10 and Big 12 will sponsor them for FBS status. Same could be said for James Madison, Jacksonville State and Eastern Washington.

You say things with credibility sometimes then jump off a ledge and say stuff like that. Unless you're just joking. If so, pardon my ignorance.

Jacksonville State could lineup games much better with FBS schools from the SBC, C-USA, ACC and SEC better.
Eastern Washington this year schedule 2 FBS cupcake teams from the PAC 12, and beat them both.
James Madison does have the academics cred to lineup to play AAC, ACC and so forth. They been playing ACC teams already, and beat Virginia Tech one year.
The Dakota schools have been a terror on FBS programs of late. They could easily get games with the Big 10, Big 12 and MWC left and right. I would like to see the Minnesota Vs North Dakota State to continue. The Bisons have their number lately.

C-USA West joins the WAC, keeping NMSU in place. The WAC then invites Missouri State and Wichita State. The MVC invites Omaha (Summit) and UMKC (WAC). The Summit invites North Dakota. The Big Sky invites Utah Valley. The Big West invites Seattle, Bakersfield, and Grand Canyon. The Southland invites UTRGV. Chicago State folds.

C-USA (7) then adds JMU for all sports and UMass for football only (8/9). The CAA invites NJIT. The Atlantic Sun goes fishing from Division II.

RE: North Dakota State's 5-year run is over
Back when it was uncertain as to whether or not UMass would leave the MAC or become full members two years ago, there was a lot of talk if they chose the latter that JMU would be added to put the conference at an even number, with BG moving to the MAC West. Never came to fruition, but in the unlikely case that one of our teams is poached in the near future I'm sure they're still on our short list. But we won't add them and someone else at this point if everything stays the same, we've basically made a commitment to stay at 12 teams for the foreseeable future.

JMU seems happy to be FCS and right now enjoying the playoff run and getting more attention than they would be doing in a low G5 conference.

Are they really getting more attention though. The only reason I even knew NDSU played yesterday is because we had a poorly timed NDSU troll yesterday who made some comments he probably regrets today. As a result, I decided to google the FCS playoffs to see when they played.

It's not like ESPN was advertising the game at all. It just sort of televised it.

The NCAA has zero say in how the CFP distributes the money from its media deal. Zero.

Thing is, the CFP really just gives the G5 a pot of money and says "OK, divide this how you will". The G5 schools agreed to split a significant portion of it as $1M/school, up to 10 schools, per G5 conf, right off the top.

So now instead of $50M, you're at $60M .... from the same original pot. The size of the pot won't increase. The G5 would have to decide if they want to do that ....
