The 'popular vote' is irrelevant.

To bring it up is to suggest that it has some meaning when in reality it has none.

It sure does. If you like heavy taxes and regulation move to California or New York as that seems to be where the democrats have concentrated.

Due to the shared sovereignty between each state and the federal government, Americans are citizens of both the federal republic and of the state in which they reside.

No more symbolic than the meaning of the cities of NY and LA accounting for more than that entire national margin.

What it means is that while Democrats are EXTREMELY popular in LA and NY, in the rest of the country, it's about a wash... with Republicans actually winning... Which is why they hold more house seats, more senate seats and more governorship (as well as some other less meaningful, but similarly symbolic measures)

You can't claim your point has symbolic meaning as a measure of the will of the people or political pulse of the nation or whatever other 'symbolic meaning' you think it has, and ignore how concentrated that will is in two very small (on a national basis) 'cities'. Outside of those two cities, the R/D split is actually pretty close, even within those states.

The way our democracy is set up gives slightly more power to minority opinions, especially if those opinions are spread across wider physical areas (more states). Funny now how the 'party of minorities' wants to eliminate this, now that 'minorities' (of all of the various types as we now define them) are actually the majority.

Only in your mind. Everyone else see a few large metropolitan cesspools that vote overwhelmingly Democrat and have been run by Democrats for years and years.......that are also rampant with crime, shootings, the highest taxes in the country........and we want no part of that.

So shove that popular national vote (which we don't use) where the sun don't shine.

I want no part of NY, San Fran, LA, Chicago - nope! I'll stay in my safe, no shootings, lower taxed place thank you.

What I take from that article:

If the San Andreas fault ever goes off as predicted, we will never have another democrat President. Hillary won California and New York by a combined 8 million votes. That means she lost the rest of the entire United States by 6 million votes. It is not the fault of the republican party that democrats either A) decide that they can only exist in their own bubble and therefore decide to all clump together in very small geographical areas or, B) constant exposure to sea air and sunshine (California and south Florida) apparently causes people to become politically correct at some extreme level and causes their views to greatly vary from the rest of the country.

These are the people that Hillary ignored, that the democratic party ignored. The people who look at big cities and the people in them as cesspools rampant with crime, and shootings.

They truly believe that Mayberry exists and that Andy Taylor is the sheriff.

It's not as much they believe Mayberry exists as they recognize how abysmal urban areas ran by liberals are. They are more grounded in reality than liberals.

They believe that urban areas are abysmal but that isn't based in fact. The vast majority of poor people live in rural areas. Cities may have more crime but that has much more to do with population density rather than the party of the local government.

If you want to talk about grounded in reality, the reality is that Mayberry doesn't exist anymore. At least that is outside of Mayberry.

Listen to almost every Trump supporter and you will hear many of them say they want to take America back as if we had a time machine or make America great again as if we lost something that we once had.

We cannot regain what we once had. America is a very different country now and it will never be how it once was.

Keep believing that Fit and you will continue to appear delusional. You and fellow liberals have no basis in reality. You live in a delusional fantasy world where government is the solution to every problem instead of understanding that overgrown and obtrusive government causes problems. You think taxing more will make things better for education even when it has been demonstrated private schools educate better for less money per student. Liberals feel they are owed, feel that others must share their beliefs, and feel any success is at the expense of the less fortunate. They are also very good at the "do as I say not as I do" creed.

Yes they do... but they overwhelmingly vote Republican in those rural areas.

You talk about them 'believing Mayberry exists', but if it does, it exists where THEY are, not where YOU/Democrats are.

So you're basically telling them not to believe their own eyes, but instead to listen to people who don't live anywhere NEAR Mayberry.

I'm not agreeing with your premise, I'm just showing how ridiculous the conclusion you're drawing is.
