Conference realignment and lack of success the last few years has virtually eliminated all the ground that was gained over the last decade or so.

I was hoping for a good hire, someone that would signify this program hasn't peaked. Luke Fickell isn't that hire. Maybe he'll actually show up in a month, after O$U (you know, the school he actually cares about) is done with the playoffs. At least I will have most Saturdays free now, I guess.

It's been a fun ride boys, but.......

Glad you support coaches, and not the school. One less whiner in the fan base.

There are reasons to do both, but I don't think we're in a position to simply write fans off.

RE: ESPN breaking news Luke to UC
I'm happy with the choice and hope he works out. As for his previous HC experience, having been in a couple s&*t storms and thrown in the fire on a couple jobs I can appreciate that sometimes they go really bad and sometimes really good and you don't always control the difference. If one failure defines every candidate or future opportunity few people would ever amount to anything.

What will be interesting is given an Ohio staff for the first time ever can we recruit locally and regionally in a way we never have, or is UC simply a victim to being too close to major football schools AND too many kids wanting to get away from home. I've met plenty of Cincinnatians who can't wait to get away for college thinking the grass really is greener, only to come back and say Cincinnati is quite nice. No reason football recruiting doesn't have the same challenges.

I really hope he does well. Would be nice to see some local coaches succeed here.

I actually prefer he stay. It will give uc a ton of publicity and imo it looks a lot better to fulfill that commitment that he made. Like someone else said, it's exactly how we wanted to be treated in the past but weren't.

I can't believe all the anger. Is it really just because he's an osu guy? People are really putting it out there. I know it's just message board fodder but I have a feeling some of you will feel very dumb when this thread is dragged back up constantly in the future. I'm very excited about this hire.

No. People just want a coach to be committed and not be treated like a second class citizen. We'll stand alone in the 'honorable' category - our outgoing coaches leaving us early and incoming coaches coming late. Yippee

A "ton"of publicity? Doubtful, not that it would make a bit of difference one way or the other. All I have to say is after all the whining about Tubs, people better step up and start getting season tickets, writing checks, etc....

Yea I'm skeptical as well. About as much publicity as when the announcers say "DC Luke Fickell recently left to be HC at Cincinnati."

There are some awfully good high school football programs in Dayton, Columbus, Indianapolis, and Louisville as well. If a Cincinnati kid really wants to get out of town, I don't think any UC recruiter is likely to stop him. But there are plenty who do want to stay, and plenty of other good players within a 100-mile radius that I think Fickell, Coombs, and company can really have success with.

Remember when Tubs got here and said that recruiting within 200 miles is key? The guy knew what needed to be done, he just wasn't able to follow through.

“It’s with much pride and humility that I accept the awesome honor of becoming the head coach at the University of Cincinnati,” Fickell said.

Awesome.

You guys can't see the forest through the trees. Do you think just maybe some recruits will be watching the CFP games? It will be pretty nice to be able to call some recruits right after they just saw LF on the biggest stage in college football. But hey, you will have to see him wearing an OSU hat, so he should probably just leave ASAP.

I Couldnt care less that he's coming from OSU TBH.
Just dont see the mileage out of showing the guy on the sidelines and mentioning hes coming to UC vs saying he already left to come to UC. Guy already has a NC ring, major bowl wins, etc to tout to recruits.

I'm no expert, but I have to guess itd be much easier to recruit when you can walk in someone's house and say "Hi, im Luke Fickell and I just won my third National Championship."

Balderdash. If he first shows up a month from now, performs as hoped, and puts UC on a track toward continuing excellence, he'll be revered. Take the long view (unless, of course, you're running for Congress).

People are gonna reference recruiting as the reason to come now.

We'll, our recruiting ranking sucks right now. Like, worst in quite awhile. So, with Fickell, and the rumored coaches wanting to join him, and how good of recruiters they are, I'm gonna go out on a crazy limb here and say that, no matter when they start, our class is gonna be just fine.

Just fine or as good as it could possibly be?

Problem is way too many around UC were fine with "just fine" the past 4 years up until about October of this year. It's an acquired loser mindset. Demand excellence, not just fine.

For once, why don't you show a little class and welcome our new coach before you start your negativity?
