RE: Breaking,,per Bearcat Report
Off of Football Scoop this morning.
Cincinnati: ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg relays that Luke Fickell has had discussions with Cincinnati but no offer has been extended at this time. As of last night, we had the same understanding, adding that others were still being considered.
Houston: Offensive coordinator Major Applewhite is the new head coach. Todd Orlando, who was serving as the interim head coach, will serve as the defensive coordinator for the bowl game. AD Hunter Yuracheck notes that Applewhite got a 5-year deal, and the two sides have agreed to basic terms, per Joseph Duarte.

Lots of them felt that Fickell got a bum deal his interim year and thought he did better then he should have considering all the suspensions, lack of of coaches and lack of time to prepare. He was supposed to be a guy to get them through the sh*tstorm and take one for the team and actually had them competitive every game with some good wins. I believe he even earned a look at being the head guy after that season (Until Meyer was in). That season was dysfunction central and he tried to keep it together as best he could. So I won't hold that against him and you could argue surviving that may even be a feather in his cap.
He has a year under his to learn from mistakes and has worked under two great coaches (And played under another). I do think Meyer wants to see his coaching tree flourish like most coaches and probably had a hand in him getting to UC. He's not Tubs. He's young with a fire. He may even be willing to hang around (Assuming he is successful and is allowed). Family is all still close. Still could jump if he is successful, but I'd be fine with that if it means we are back on track.
Love his recruiting and how much his players rave about him. Again, it remains to be seen if he can recruit to a team of his own. But I think considering how much his players love him and the chance the Meyer may be willing to steer some guys our way to keep them out of the Big 10, that he will be fine. I'd like to see Coombs come too, though I'm a little worried if he was the DC, but I think the positives out-weigh the negatives and Fickell likely would help with the defense too. Just need a good OC And I'd like to see Prunty stay on board too).
If he is the guy, I'll support him. He was a name I didn't hate, but really has grown on me as I have talked with friends and read more about him. Go Bearcats!!!
+1
He's not coming here for a 2,000,000 a year vacation like the last guy. He deserves to be supported unless he proves he can't do the job.

Make it happen! If they considered Fleck, considering Kiffin should be no big deal!

I was hoping we could bring back the crew that coached the (1st) Belk Bowl. That was the high water mark for coaching here in the last 4 years.

RE: Breaking,,per Bearcat Report
So let me get this straight. We want the CO D coordinator to become our head coach, a first for the guy, and we want him to bring Coombs as a first time D coordinator. Might as well hire someone to be a first time O coordinator while we are at it to complete the trifecta. Seriously?

Sure would be LOL Great coach and recruiter that is for sure, but he'd probably only be here a max of 2 years, maybe even 1.

He'd bring along Steve Sarkisian as his OC. It would be epic.

Meyer brought in Schiano as co-defensive coordinator and associate head coach. That is a double slap in the face to Fickell. Not only do you hire someone over him in the succession line, you force Fickell to share his role. Needless to say OSU doesn't need two DC's.
Soooo we are going to take the guy who is now the #2 DC at OSU?
I don't like it.
x2
Schiano made the calls on D for them this year. Years past the guy who designed the D and made the calls was Chris Ash who left to take the Rutgers job.
My only worry is I am not sure what we would be getting exactly. He's not considered a top recruiter- not even on that staff. He does not appear to be an innovator. Is he a motivator and management guy?
So if he's not much of a recruiter, not a brainiac of coaching innovation, doesn't call the plays despite supposedly being a co-DC, it doesn't sound like we're getting much .

When has that ever been a requirement to succeed in Clifton Heights?

If we learned anything from the last time our coach was the town drunk, we should include an alcohol budget in the contract to make sure our new coach stays liquored up! Maybe this time we can hire a full time DD to prevent those annoying DUIs.

With Sark, just renovate the top floor of a dorm and make it is apartment and he is required to lock himself up every night like Otis the town drunk in Mayberry.
