Hmm..cannot believe he was their first choice. The buy out terms must have been too constraining for either Kiflin or Miles.

Maybe it was his turn. Don't worry, Bailiff's better, right?

That or they decided to start a trend of hiring former Rice OCs.

But, it would also be interesting to see where the 10 of hearts (Applewhite) ends up. I think it is clear that he will probably not be wearing UH red next year. And I don't see a HC for him just yet. But for the life of me I have no clear idea where the supposed wunderkind in waiting will end up. Could be fun to see where the Applewhite ball drops on the coaching roulette wheel.

dead wrong on both sides.... nice start to end of the week....

Was he the OC here? Thought Applewhite was a QB coach for us.

Ga State hires former South Carolina position coach/coordinator Shawn Elliot as their new head football coach for 2017:

http://www.ajc.com/sports/college/georgi...Q5F293c3J/

Quote:Among the reported people who were interviewed were Oklahoma State defensive coordinator Glenn Spencer, Auburn offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee, Arizona State offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey, Georgia Tech recruiting coordinator Andy McCollum and South Carolina co-offensive coordinator Bryan McClendon.

He will also have a recruiting advantage that the previous coaches didn’t have: Turner Field. Georgia State will move from the Georgia Dome and is scheduled to play its home games in a converted version of the Braves’ former home in 2017.

Though the terms of the contract haven’t been finalized, GA State AD Charlie Cobb (former App State AD when they shocked the world and beat Michigan in the Big House) last week said the coach would likely have the same salary as Miles (approximately $550,000) with $1.1 million to be spent on the assistant coaches.

OC and QB coach, as was Mensa.

Does that mean that there is hope for Edmondson?

Strange in that Orlando was named as interim instead of Applewhite. Wish Applewhite well except when UH is playing Rice. So no longer a possible replacement for Baliff in the future.

No, but Lane Kiffin and Art Briles are still on the market.

Presumably Mehringer's time at Rice overlapped with Mensa's?

Yes, Mehringer worked with Herman as an undergrad after he couldn't play anymore. Mehringer followed Herman to Iowa State, Ohio State and Houston before leaving for Rutgers (head coach was DC at Ohio St when Herman was there; Herman recommended Mehringer to Chris Ash). This is a good move for Mehringer - he needs more time as a position coach at FBS level, IMO, despite his success as OC at James Madison.

This poster says FAU plans to spends more than they have for their next new Head Coach:

(12-12-2016 07:27 AM)goliath74 Wrote:  FAU did say we were going to raise the HC salary target from Partridge's number but I doubt they would be able to match Kiffen's number. However, Kiffen would like to have been THE GUY. Would he have come down on the salary demands, though?

And, no, I don't want Kiffen. Sure, he can coach, but would his baggage be worth it?

I do want a guy with HC experience at the FBS level or higher. Tired of assistants who amount to jack schmit.

Kiffin in at FAU.

Love the 'Cold War of football Superpowers' on how Alabama/Ohio St. may be using FAU for their own means.

But from FAU perspective, some high profile folks that are not cheap and show how serious they are about competing.

Some owls are more equal than others, apparently. Congrats to FAU for being willing to spend money on a chance at becoming better than they were under their old football coach.
