We had the advantage running the option, but DW is just not an option QB, he doesnt make good reads (or pitches). Once he banged his knee up, we went to Compton and Cox at TE and ran down their throats. Thats the first time I've ever seen a coach call timeout to draw up a defensive play.......LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! We completely caught them off guard with double TE, no WR on one side.

Had to win a game where the offensive turned it over 3 times. Defense was outstanding; what a performance.

An advantage running an option with a non option QB.

Quite possibly the stupidest sentence I've ever read on this board.

We had an advantage bc of the way FIU lined up. It was DW or Lawry; 1v1 on a linebacker, which is why we destroyed them running it in the first half. Even with DW being bad at it, we still gashed them on the ground.

I don't want to waste a great night of football arguing with you so Im done after this. We played our asses off and glad they proved you wrong. If you want to criticize the coaches, at least do it intelligently. You just make yourself look bad when you criticize without knowing what you are talking about.

The stupidest sentence you should have read was when you used to insist that we BLITZ THE MIDDLE LINEBACKER vs. the option.

We did not have success running the option in the first half. Yet another asinine post from you.

My suggestion to blitz the middle linebacker was to break up they're blocking scheme.
You know what's really stupid? Giving up 700 yards rushing and not changing up the game plan at all. So of course here you are defending that decision.

You really are one of the least knowledgeable fans I've ever conversed with.

Washington ran 5 times for 31 yards before he screwed up the pitch. That doesnt include the Ray Lawry runs.

If you dont think 6 yards per carry is good, well...

Jesus dude. 6 yards a carry is NOT worth having your QB take shots from
D lineman and linebackers. Not when lawry can get 6 yards a carry on his own with no option and no risk.

Washington also fumbled twice......so no, I would prefer not taking the risk.

Our 3, uncharacteristic turnovers cost us 14 points. The play calling in the first half was bad, not horrible, but bad. DW is not a pitch option quarterback, read option yes. I did call their two tight end passes each time they brought their big stud into the game. He sucks at blocking which is why he goes in when he gets thrown to. Speaking of TE, where is our big TE, Vaughan?

ODU went 9-3, 7-1 in C-USA. An amazing season for a team picked to finish sixth in the East Division. Bobby Wilder COY.

If you dont think 6 yards per carry is good, well...

The 1st half offensive scheme of having Washington involved in several run option plays resulted in the following -

* 2 lost fumbles.
* Washington taking multiple hits (was eventually knocked out of the game).
* A 14 - 14 halftime tie.

The 2nd half offensive scheme of having Washington run the team as he had run it in the prior 11 games resulted in the following -

* No fumbles.
* 28 second half points.
* Running through them on the ground with Lawry and Cox like a hot knife through butter.

There is no logical argument for supporting the 1st half offensive scheme over the 2nd half offensive scheme. This isn't Monday morning quarterbacking either. Many of us said they were screwing up with their approach well before halftime and wanted them to go to exactly what they went to in the 2nd half (which worked like a Swiss Watch).

Agreed. ODU's Offensive Coordinator needs to be given a stern lecture about now risking your QB when a bowl game is incoming.

That is really not that close at all.

In post game I'll try and paraphrase what I heard.

Basically based on film and formations they did what they thought would work best with the read option to exploit the edges. Dw said he tried to do too much on the last play and he took a helmet to the leg. But before that play wilder said he wanted to kill the option as it wasn't working as well as they had liked so they went back to the drawing board. Oc came up with what we saw in the 2nd and he said it caught fiu totally off guard.

Posted from mobile device. Hopefully it's coherent.

RE: Game 12 - FIU Panthers
My point is that the option worked well.....until DW screwed up on back to back pitches. It is a play that has worked well all year when teams stack the box (with no turnovers). FIU was putting 6 guys within 3 yards of the LOS and shooting the A gaps. We had numbers outside. They tried the option, which was working. Heck, Lawry had a chance at a big play if he didn't take eye off the ball. The play Washington was injured on was different read option play. These are plays we ran all year, but FIU dives inside to take away the RB handoff, which forced Washington to hold on to the ball. It was the same playcalling we've done all year.

We scrapped it after the 2nd fumble and overloaded one side with extra OL and TE to counter the numbers and went to a more ball controlled grind them out plan, which worked great. People are too quick to whine about playcalling.

Tonights game was far more important than what the bowl game will be. You don't "save" players for bowl games.

Yeah, the game was either a push or close win from either side, but I thought we outplayed the spread. Their backup QBs are awful.

For a team that seemingly couldn't adjust to anything last season and early this season, we seem to be doing a remarkable job with adjustments on both offense and defense now.

I couldn't help but laugh. They called timeout and brought the chalkboard out to draw up a play. We were on our sideline kind of laughing that they were drawing up plays and they were so scared we would see what they were drawing up.

If your coach has to call timeout and draw up plays, you probably havent done your job as a coach. I understand it was something they probably never saw from us before, but still.

Same. He didn't throw but 1 down field but it went a long way and the short passes were crisp and on target except that one he really under threw that might have been a td with 3 sec left.
