These were the results of AR St's first four games of the season: home vs Toledo LOST by 21, at Auburn LOST by 37, at Utah St LOST by 14, home vs Central Ark (FCS) LOST by 5.
Were all the starters in jail for the first four weeks???? Or is the Sun Belt just really down this year???
Bear with me.
Changed offensive coordinators (old one turned down head coach at ULM, went Maryland as OC), OL coach left. Returned zero starters in the offensive backfield.
Went into spring with last year's #2 QB the heir apparent. Juco QB comes in. Final week of spring Juco #1, last year #3 is #2 and the heir apparent is #3. About a week later the heir apparent is dismissed from the team because he had been recording meetings hoping to prove the coaches were out to get him. He failed well maybe he didn't since they did kick him off. He's at McNeese. The #2 transfers as well.
AState brings in a grad transfer from Pitt but can't practice until fall.
Can't settle on a QB until last week of fall camp, grad transfer gets it. Loses it in the third game down 24-0
Team plays like total crap. Offensive line with four returning all-conference players can't open up 100 yards rushing against Central Arkansas.
City goes into meltdown and our AD (former player at AState, bounced around a bit as an assistant football coach before going into administration) has a late-night meeting with the head coach. AD says they just looked at film together.
We come out with an all new offensive blocking scheme and basically run at will against then league best rushing defense Georgia Southern.
Haven't lost since.
