UC MBB Predictions / Thoughts
1) There have been 49 1,000 point scorers in UC history; there will be 4 on this years team. Caupain, Clark, Evans, and Cumberland.
2) This year or next UC will go to at least an Elite 8
3) By seasons end Johnson and Moore won't be top 8 players on this team.
4) We're at least a 3 seed this year.
Anyone else?

1) I think this can absolutely happen.
2) I want to say "hell yeah" to this one, but the NCAA Tourney is so hard to predict. Odds are against UC.
3) I think this is sort of already the case. They appear to be the bottom two right now. The minutes they get might disagree, but when it comes to on-court contributions, I think this is accurate.
4) A 3-seed will be insanely difficult in this conference. We'd need to go like 28-3. But I think we can get a 5-seed, if we play to the best of our abilities.

I already love what I see from Tre Scott. He looks so comfortable out there in ways our freshman never used to look. I'd really like to see more of him for the right reasons, not just foul trouble.
I know Mick seems to like giving complete freedom to his players on offense, but he needs to reign in Moore. Q could be effective if he simply stays in the paint. He somehow managed to fire up 7 first half shots last night. That simply can't happen.

Moore shot 7 times. One hit the side of the back board. He shot two air balls. Two jump shots that missed badly. There is nothing left to say. He is what he is.

I'm so glad Tre stayed after being redshirted. I think he's gonna be really really really good. Reminds me very vaguely of OG Anunoby at the beginning of last year for Indiana. Great length, super athletic, and most importantly understands the game. He just flows really well within the game when he's on the court.
Completely agree on Quad. Dude is skilled and could be a really solid player if he would just play within the box on offense. I really wish Mick would protect him from himself and limit what he's allowed to do on the court.
Edit: Just looked it up...Tre is listed 6'8"/225lbs. Anunoby is 6'8"/215lbs.
They're calling Anunoby the next Kawhi Leonard...I haven't seen what kind of stroke Tre has yet but I'm loving the early returns.

i'm interested in how coachable Quad is and, frankly, what kind of coaching he's receiving. He looks like he is in better shape so that's a positive, but he's taking some awful shots. i also feel like he gets switches mixed on D, although i'm less sure about that. He can be an asset but he'll have to change his trajectory in a rather drastic manner.

1. Probably. Ironically the least likely in my opinion is Evans. We've only played 2 but if he continues to average high teens he could go pro. The other three appear safe bets.
2. Capable but I don't predict the crap shoot that is the NCAA tournament.
3. Disagree. KJ is our best perimeter defender and will be in the top 8.
4. Not a chance. AAC looks like complete garbage. We'd probably have to lose 4 or fewer games.

Win the AAC regular
Win the AAC tourney
Get a 3 or 4 seed
Sweet 16 possibly 8
Anything less is failure.
More clarity after URI and Dook.

I'll be the naysayer in the crowd. After two games I don't see this team as significantly better or worse than anything Mick has had over the past 6 years.
My prediction is UC competes for the AAC title, hovers around the 20-30 ranking most of the season, garners a 5-10 seed in the tourney, and wins 2 games at best.

This team has way more skill players than most of Mick's teams. 2012 was the last year UC actually had legit scoring options at all spots and that team ended up having a really good postseason run. Gary Clark is option 4 on offense when he is in with the starters, last year he was option 2. This team actually has a bench that actually fill needs like the 2011 team had. Those were Mick's best overall teams and this year seems a lot like those years. Everything after 2012 seemed to be hurt by a couple really bad recruiting classes which forced the team to play through SK or Troy the last few years.

I'm inclined to agree.
We simply don't have enough data yet to project performance against top tier teams, the conference race or the postseason. I do agree with those suggesting that this team has some intriguing upside. Jennifer really emerged in the second half last night. I've felt all along that Evans would be the star and the young big men could really give a lift off the bench. And how great is it to see Washington take the ball to the hoop and finish with authority on jumpers and slams? There is good reason to be optimistic and we UC fans could use a large dose of positive medicine with all the travails of 2016.

I think 1 and 2 don't mix, it will be very hard for Evans to not be a 1000 point scorer IMO. We have 29 games + conference tourney + regular season tourney left.
For Evans to go pro after this season we'd have to have a great year, as would he, I think that would put us at least 37 games. He would have to average 19.6 over 37 games this season to hit the 1000 point mark.
I think the more likely situation is he averages about 14.5 / game this year we do well, and next year he easily surpasses 1000 points - my guess is by the end of his junior year he'll be at about 1400.

Wait, Justin Jenifer is still here? I thought for sure that Mick had pulled his scholarship after all the posters on here stated that he would never amount to anything and was an epic failure after his Freshman season.

Mick's recruiting has jumped significantly IMO. Obviously the 2016 class is still early but so far it looks very promising. I think you need to hit at a top 25 type level 3 out of every 4 years to maintain.
Years I think we had a top 25 type recruiting class not based on rankings but what the guys did when they got here:
2008,2009,2013,2014,2015,2016
Years below par
2006,2007,2010,2011,2012
I also think Mick has hit on more guards recently, I currently think of Kevin Johnson as our 5th best guard - think Jacob Evans is a better 2 or 3 than KJ.

We're not allowed to be up on players. Clearly, Mick can't recruit, just like he'll never go beyond the sweet sixteen, just like everyone said "he'll never make the tournament" until he did.

RE: UC MBB Predictions / Thoughts
If Washington plays the entire season as he has the first 2 games this team is better than last year. Ellis really, really struggled last season and Washington appears to have a very nice touch and aggressive approach to getting shots. Ellis not so much. An inside presence makes an entire team much better. I'm not sure Moore's issues are coaching related. He needs to just learn to relax. When he does this he's fine. I suspect this team will prove to be much more aggressive getting shots on the offensive end once they get a month or so under their belts. They clearly have the most guys overall that Cronin has had who will look for and take shots.

I was certainly one of those posters, as I've said, I hope the guy makes me look stupid. But we will have to see what he looks like against the step up in competition when the guys he's guarding are bigger, stronger and faster. If he can be a nuisance on defense and push the ball up the floor on offense I will love him.

I have guarded optimism. I like what I have seen but it is early. The first half last night wasn't the best thing to watch - let's hope Mick nixes that.
