Lynch and Harnisch always killed us because they could take those hits and keep making plays. Graham wasn't the same after the 4th or 5th stick, and he's a mediocre thrower to start with. I thought NIU's staff did a great job of preparing and scheming on both sides. They were the sharper team for a half, but the Rockets made some adjustments and had more talent on offense. our D is very beat up, but some of the young guys held their own on the line. Taafe and Woodley finally showed up in the second half and NIU hurt themselves with penalties ( a couple were blockers trying to make up for getting beat). Of course, the game was won by Kareem Hunt. He stepped up and refused to lose in the 4th quarter. That 3rd and 6 pass catch where he absorbed a direct shot from the LB and shook it off and ran for the first will be the play of the season if the Rockets get by WMU and win the West.

That was a really good play by Hunt, and a backbreaker for NIU. NIU has been hurting itself with penalties all year, part of the reason we're losing these close games instead of winning them.

Not surprised Toledo made adjustments (or just woke up) in the second half and we had to answer, which we did somewhat, but we weren't going to outscore Toledo with Graham in there, that much was obvious. As I mentioned before the game, we had to hope Toledo shot themselves in the foot a number of times on offense.

RE: NIU Thread
Yeah, that 3rd down play by hunt saved our season. I have been critical of him this year, but he's been easier to watch the last couple of games. Still think he's lost a step.

If I had to pick our team mvp this year, my vote goes to Michael Roberts. Woodside has the gaudy numbers, but Roberts has bailed us out numerous times. Either he took some awesome pills in the off season, or we have secretly been keeping him under wraps the past 3 yrs.

Hester's injury looked serious. How confident are we here on out if he's out the rest of the season?

What game was Hester injured in?

Interested as well, what did I miss? I missed most of the BG game due to a soccer tournament, only caught parts on espn3 mobile. All reports I can find say his injury is undisclosed with questionable status. Seems like if it wasn't too serious or personally damaging for his career, we would know already. We need him bigtime for WMU.

Also curious to know how the o-line injuries are doing. Looks like we will have a couple more days than WMU to rest before that final game, hope that helps us. Team needs to concentrate on fundamentals and BSU for now though...

RE: NIU Thread
Hunt:
203 rushing attempts (2 short of single season personal most)
1,048 yards (2nd most in single season for career)
7 TD's ( had 12 last season, and 16 in 2014)
5.2 YPC (worst of any season, but with an injured Oline for the first time in his career)
30 receptions for 206 yards (by far the most productive he has been in the short passing game)

To me Kareem has had a beat up O-line, and still has more than enough strength to dominate. He may be heavier after 4 years of college workouts hence why he isn't as fast as the young buck who came in against BG in 2013... He is still doing more this year because he has been catching passes and mixing up our offense. He's been fun to watch and deserves to be in the conversation with Chester as best back in Toledo history.

He has 25 100 yard games, and has 41 career TD's with 0 lost fumbles. We are spoiled by what we saw in 2014 with a nationally prominant Oline... 5ypc and over 100 yards per game is fine with me.

Chester is 41st all time with 4646 yards (43 games)
Kareem is 52nd all time with 4518 (41 games) and 3/4 more games left

You can see Hester near the end. Seems to be moving well, if that means anything.

Holy smokes. Guess they really did feel the pressure and need to get the monkey off their back. One hell of a celebration. Hope there's more left in the tank.

I think WMU wasn't that much better than NIU, the Non-rivals will have a good chance against the fighting scullers of WMU.

We'll be pulling for the dogs, although a win helps us not at all. At least wear them down a bunch for us, OK?

We already played WMU. Lost by 15. Though we did have Maddie playing in that game.

Yup. I was watching it while out of town and left a Bdubs to go back to the hotel after the 3rd qtr. ended. Forgot all about that play until I watched my DVR recording when I got home Thursday night.
That was a huge play that if he did not make it, would likely have forced a punt and a lot more stress for the defense to make a stop.
