Lots of talent on the team, but not much has been realized yet. Teams are going to sag on Brandan and force ODU to shoot from the outside. We are either going to have to sharpen up our passing or find some guys on the team who are going to consistently knock down the 3.

I dont see it. Fields looks ok, but Caver is playing really well. Im not sure why people are down on Caver.

Caver is just not a good shooter at this point. Not good from the FT line. Making some bad passes on fast breaks. Fields looks to be a better shooter and making very good decisions.

Fields is an electric player, and very exciting to watch. But I disagree that he is playing the pg position better than Caver.

What I see is Fields doing some freelancing compared to Caver consistently running the offensive sets. I'm delighted to have Fields as a back up to Caver, but I'll be surprised if he takes the starting job.

Rewatching the first half. BJ's feet are a little sluggish on defense. He needs to pick it up. He got beat a few times.

I was surprised to see Pinkney get so little time tonight. He was our best PG Wednesday night.

He can get buckets but he's getting the PT one should expect from the 3rd string PG. I don't know what he is or isn't doing in practice and meetings, but I also haven't seen enough of him to argue he shouldn't be 3rd based on 11 total minutes of play from him so far.

Can you explain what he is doing well? Fast breaks have been a struggle, and beyond that he just starts the offense and gets out of the way until a reset for the most part. We really need some kind of offense out of that position, and I don't see where he is going to be able to provide that based on what I saw last year, and have seen the first two exhibitions this year. In fairness, he has shown the beginnings of an ability to get to the basket, but doesn't seem ready to finish consistently yet.

I have been pleasantly surprised by the players as a whole. I think we have more offensive talent than I expected, but I am very concerned about PG.

If JJ actually plays the guys that can shoot, and lets them shoot without having to look over their shoulder, I think this year's team could be much better from three than last year's.

We need more freelancing.

Just saw no one answered you, but as I understand it CUSA will stream all sports from every team in the conference. If you cannot make basketball games I think it's well worth the $11/mo for the season. I might pull the trigger so I can watch the away games, haven't decided yet.

He had 9 points and 5 assists in 26 minutes; hes creating some type of offense. He has very good handles, didnt turn the ball over much (2), and has a very good ability to draw fouls. His shot mechanics have improved from last year.

Fields is looking great, he is obviously better than a walk-on, just as JJ has been saying all off-season. But Caver is much more polished, and he can shoot. Fields can drive against a D2 and D3 roster but he hasn't shown he can be a scoring threat from 12 feet out. All in all I'm very impressed with him and really excited to have him on the roster, but Caver is obviously the #1 at the position.

Only cusa home games. So OOC away games won't be shown on cusa tv. All conferences games should be shown on it as long as they aren't scheduled to be on some other network.

Not sure if this has been answered, but if you get cusatv, can you watch the games when they are not live? My husband works weird hours and wouldn't always be able to watch them at kickoff or tipoff.

Yes, so far. I'm not sure how long their archives last, but you can still watch both exhibition games right now.

The big question is: Can we still watch the replay of Queens College vs. VSewageU?

Some ASN games are now showing up on CUSA.tv.

Caver is an elite defender. Those of you that beg for Baker to stay in because of defense, need to take a hard look at Ahmad on defense.

At what point do you take a step back, look at your team, and say, we need to get some players that can score out there? You can't just put the 5 best defensive players on the court, offense be damned, and expect to win against good teams.

It is not like the PG is really asked to do much of anything aside from walking the ball up the court successfully and mastering the art of the dribble hand off in JJ's offense. With that in mind, as things stand right now, I would put Jordan at the point and start BJ at the 2. Maybe we sacrifice a little defense, but become a much better shooting team, and force teams to guard all of our perimeter players.

I don't buy all this mess JJ is saying about this team not being very good offensively. If he chose to play the best offensive players, this team could develop into a pretty solid offensive team. Baker, Stith, Talley, Kah, Stith could be a pretty potent offensive lineup if Baker keeps shooting the way he has the first two games, and Kah is as good of a shooter as it looks like he is.

Tell that to the 2010-2011 team.

RE: MBB vs Virginia Wesleyan
I still don't understand what people have against Caver. It's like people are just assuming he's a bad player based on limited minutes as a freshman last year?

Caver is by far the best passer on the team and actually had a higher assist rate than anyone on the team last year. He also led the team in steal rate and had a relatively decent turnover rate. Besides Stith (obv), he had the highest free throw rate on the team. He's probably a better rebounder than any of our guards (except BJ, maybe?) He is the one guy that can create offense when he's asked to do so. Obviously, we haven't seen much of his jumper, but his mechanics looked better than last year. He is a very good athlete and is the best guy on the floor to push in transition. He's our best defender at the guard spot.

I don't understand how guys would prefer a shooting guard that stands behind the 3 point arc during the entire offensive set or a walk on true freshman (albeit probably scholly talent) over him. We would have no flow on offense with Baker at PG.

I'm not sure what Fields does better than Caver at this point. What does he do?
