Black and Red Scrimmage
Evans and Cumberland sat with minor injuries.

Jenifer took a hard fall with about 4:00 left that brought the scrimmage to a stop. Got up and seemed to be alright.

Cane Broome is going to be a nice addition.

Plenty of former Bearcat greats in attendance.

RE: Black and Red Scrimmage
Disappointing both wing players couldn't play. Tough to judge when the black team is forced into a big lineup of Tre, Quad, and Brooks but Broome kept them in it. Playing against him everyday in practice is really going to make our guards better.

Gotta keep our guys healthy this year. Practice is only about two weeks old and we've already got two of our top six players nicked up. Must have the same trainer as Andrew Gantz does.

Is that Dontonio Wingfield in the middle slightly crouching down? I see Stokes standing beside K-Mart I believe. Blount in the extreme left in the cap? Eric Hicks on the right of Blount in the backwards cap. He still looks like he could run through a brick wall.

That's Terry Nelson. Steve Sanders hit a corner three during one timeout that was kind of cool.

Kenyon, Dermarr, Stokes, Gibson, Buford, Meachem and a few more were all at Terry Nelson's tailgate on the grid.

RE: Black and Red Scrimmage
First impressions: I had a chance to see the first half of the scrimmage Saturday. Granted, Evans was out and I believe he may be the best player on this team. But watching them shoot it was Brick City once again; an incredible number of missed shots from three feet in and the best offense was often a rebound and stick back of a missed layup.

Mick's argument about a more open, flowing offense with this group makes sense. The proof will be on display very soon and we'll see if what we hear is what we get.

I was impressed with Quad--I think he could be a poster child for player development for this program. He's got a great looking shot from outside and physically seems to have matured and gained strength. His combo of size and shooting could provide quality minutes off the bench.

Bottom line: there were encouraging signs but given the style of play for most of ten years I'd be cautious in predicting they've overcome the offensive deficiencies that caused them to come up short last season against quality competition such as Butler, Iowa State, and X. Hoping for the best and another NCAA bid come March.

Quad has so much potential. Hopefully his brain catches up to his body because he could be a great weapon for UC in the future.

I think Quad's leap this year will be because he's finally committed to being a good basketball player - both on and off the court.
