You gotta have balls of steel and the PR team of Michael Jackson to pull that off without social media and news backlash, i suppose....

Can't just look at raw stats and say this is where we lost. Without the holding and some very favorable spots. They do not continue a number of their drives early. Meaning out defense has more rest and is able to make more plays.

It is like a snow ball going down him and getting bigger as it goes. Some plays their interior linemen actually put their arms around the defender and turn them. Those plays add up in the end.

RE: Official Memphis Vs. Navy Game Thread
Despite the multiple missed chop blocks not called, holding virtually every play by Navy OL & consistently giving Navy 1-2 yds with every spot, we should have won that game. We miss a field goal, miss a score with 4 tries inside the 5, Riley runs when he should throw it out of bounds & a fumble at the worst possible time when we had the 1st down moving to tie/win the game. Even so, why don't we hit the QB every play, why don't we have containment at the corners? SMH............

May be the player we had spying their QB all day is the one who is constantly being held

Figure we were in trouble on the PI call where the ball was waaay over the head of the WR and they call contact.

Surely you jest. We had a better athlete at probably 18-19 of 22 starters.

Yeah. Athletes are NOT the problem. Our defensive scheme and instruction is the problem. On that 3rd and 1 for Navy at the goal line, we waited.... WAITED ...to tackle "whoever was coming through the line with the ball." You have to push THEM back.

Have been seeing this same thing happen year after year at GT with Paul Johnson (the Navy coach mentor). And if GT didn't win with inferior athletes, they wouldn't win at all. Unfortunately for GT, the ACC has learned to defense his scheme better over the years & he doesn't have the QB to overcome it.

Sure. Let's get Stephen Hawkin out there and see how he does.

To begin, I would instruct my defense to tackle the QB every single play with violence(bad intentions) from start to finish

Didn't Navy beat (Houston)the number 11 team in country by 6. You guys sound like a bunch of loosers yourself.Am I disappointed. Sure I am. Could we have played better yes. But to sit here and complain like we're worthless is pathetic. If you think you can coach better which a lot of you on here think you can. Go apply for a position on the coaching staff.

I am sure that talent has something to do with it and that the scheme had something to do with it (our defensive failure). It will be nice to play them next near when we (I hope) will have the same coaches and will be able to apply what we learned this year. We got very little carryover from last year with our HC and whole defensive staff being different.

Regarding the holding, I must admit that I didn't see the holding. I am not saying that it wasn't happening, but I didn't see it in the normal course of watching the game. I need to go back and check it out. I did see the poor ball spots and there were numerous times that they got between a half and full yard advantage. Also, didn't notice the chop-blocks - gotta go check that out too.

I am not going to pin this one on the refs, though. We just didn't make the plays when we needed to. Early in the game, we were running with relative ease and then tried to pass too much - too much for the weather we were playing in. That series in the first half when we had 1st and goal from the 3-4 yard line was killer. Again, we were running with ease - just smash it in there. Instead we float one to the flat and we try twice from the 1 from a shotgun formation. Their D line was not overwhelming. Load up the backfield and shove it in there!

Tulsa will be pretty tough and looks like we will be without Shareef White for a while.

5-2, baby! Go Tigers!

Look on the bright side. We still have a chance to be bowl eligible.
