Navy is a MACHINE
I love having Navy in the conference. It's an incredibly tall order to come out of Annapolis with a win. Darn near impossible.
No matter how the West develops, I'm fine either way. Tulsa is looking great today. Tulsa-Navy should be great.
At least one of our ranked teams is moving up.
Congrats Middies! You have a great team.

I have been trying to tell people this for years.
I guess it takes a fan's team to lose so they understand.

Yeah Navy doesn't rebuild they reload. When was the last time they missed a bowl game?

I banished that fact from my mind because it is depressing.

Thanks, but this is what I have been trying to say on here for the last 2 seasons. We have a system. The players play the system. We rotate a TON of players, so our #2 isn't far off from our #1 and so on.
Most of the rest of college football has more raw talent, but Paul Johnson & Ken Niumatalolo have truly built a system.
Thanks for all the posts.

They did have a 5-7 in 2012(?), me thinks. I believe San Jose State beat them to sweep the second leg of a home and home...

RE: Navy is a MACHINE
I knew they'd be good in the AAC, they'd been winning 8 or 9 games a year consistently with equivalent schedules. I didn't expect to see them firmly atop the standings in the West though, especially with Houston and Memphis' sudden rises.

2011, going 5-7 with 5 of those losses coming by a combined 11 points. That was the outlier -- Navy has won at least 8 games in 12 of the last 13 seasons.

I find ESPN Matchup Predictor interesting:
Navy 20.2% @South Florida 79.8%
Navy 36.8% vs Notre Dame 63.2%
Navy 62.5% vs Tulsa 37.5%
Navy 66.8% @East Carolina 33.2%
Navy 55.9% @SMU 44.1%

This was in the twittersphere today:
Navy offense through first 6 games:
2015 5.3 yds per rush, 5.8 yards per play total
2016 5.2 yds per rush, 6.2 yards per play total

RE: Navy is a MACHINE
All the science of solving Navy's offense was actually in other threads, but I'll just bump this one up regardless.
Maybe some of you who have designed the perfect defense should go to Notre Dame and get paid - Brian Kelly doesn't seem to think there is a magic formula...
From Tuesday Press Conference
COACH KELLY: Well, I would say, more than anything else, when it comes to defending Navy, they strike on such a broad front. In other words, you can't take away a particular play. I think there was some thought, take away the fullback. Well, they don't care if you take away the fullback. That's okay. They'll run, toss, sweep 47 times. … It never becomes a math equation, where in a lot of the football that's played, you can get an extra hat to a particular run play and outnumber them, you can't do it against this offense. So don't try. If you try to outnumber the dive or try to outnumber the quarterback in a particular defensive structure, they've got answers.
That's really the answer to how you defend this is that you can't have all the answers.
…
So if you're going to line up in one front and that's all you do, it might be tough sledding for a little bit of the time, but they're going to get to you. So they have answers for everything. They've seen everything. It's not like you're going to come up with a defensive structure that they haven't seen before.

Navy might roll in this one. Best to the Midshipmen! Beat Notre Dame!

I think USF read my posts. They did exactly what I said. The triple option is not magic.
Five man front, get in the back field, fast brutal noseguard make center wonder about his health, play the ball not the man, string out the edges, plug the holes with linebackers. Make navy beat you throwing the ball. Navy will got a few post patterns but they beat you.
I'd Notre dame smart? We shall see
5-2.

Not only is Navy's triple option difficult to defend against but IMHO Navy now being in the AAC has physically prepared them even more versus the Notre Dame type matchups.

Like they did vs USF Lol. Just because we were too dumb to beat them doesn't make them great. Lol
