It would have been first down at the 2, and I believe we gained 3 yards when we got the ball back. That didn't affect the outcome at all.

The pick 6 was the turning point, and that whole play was a disaster.

Our freshman QB and first year coach will know better next time to CALL TIMEOUT when nobody knows what the heck they're doing.

Riley is a junior and the only person that didn't know what they were doing was the receiver

Yep... It was a hot read and the tight end never turned around. The ball sailed past him and right into the CB's hands. That play was the TE's fault.

RE: Wow - what a QB
Did I watch the same game as ya'll? Ferguson has a long way to go. The pick six was a terrible throw. People are blaming the TE but it wasn't his fault. The ball was thrown behind him. Even if he was looking there was nothing he could've done. The deep ball that was thrown to Miller, even though he completed it, was thrown behind him (not the first time he's done that this year). A good throw would've been a TD. The goofy sideways pass when he could've easily run for the 1st down was a dangerous play. He slid 3 yards short of a first down when he could've easily got the 1st. And those are just off the top of my head, there's more. While he made some good plays, he also made some terrible plays. He's inconsistent and thats not going to get it done. Now, with all that being said, I think he can be really good. He's just not there yet. And to compare him to Lynch is just laughable.

RE: Wow - what a QB
I thought he played very well despite the 0 td's and 3 interception thing. I hadn't seen him able to escape pressure all that well in previous games like he did here. Made some mistakes but they didn't seem to get in his head. First road game against a huge crowd is certainly tough. I think he's best when throwing deep balls. Not better than Lynch but still looks to be a good qb for us. Maybe more like Wimprine than Lynch.

You can't compare him at this point to an NFL starter-sooner rather than later-who had star written all over him from day 1. Give Riley a year-remember he is not too much younger than Paxton is now.

RE: Wow - what a QB
From Denver Beat writer post game article:

"But here’s the deal: In the hours before Sunday’s game, Broncos general manager John Elway and coach Gary Kubiak huddled to discuss the progress Lynch has made since being drafted in the first round out of Memphis.

“John, I think he’s really growing,” Kubiak recalls telling Elway after watching Lynch practice and prepare.’ “But you never know until a kid gets thrown in the fire.”"

"Here’s betting, however, that Elway wants to see Lynch, his first-round draft choice, play sooner rather than later. And I don’t believe the job of starting quarterback has ever been set in stone. Why would it not be a fluid situation, based on how well Siemian performs and how quickly Lynch develops?"

Agree. This was a quick play, by design. It was the TE's fault. Also, considering the differences in overall talent between the two teams, I thought we performed pretty well. We did not quit and, although we did have some costly mistakes, we left it all on the field. That's about all you can ask of the players. I am very please with Ferguson as our QB and Norvell as out coach.

Ferguson is going to throw a bunch of TD's in the next two seasons, with this stable of receivers we've got.

I just noticed that he had to do a lot on the run. He looks to be improving exponentially in that respect.

I like him a lot.

You do realize Bama and FSU didn't have a lot of a pocket for most of the game. I believe our OL did above average and will be very fine for the next 7 games!!! By the time Houston rolls into town, we should have a very solid unit. NEXT year, they will be a dominating unit!!!

Our o line is 3 sophomores 1 junior and a true freshman

This is true, and does have some effect.

However the biggest difference between schools like Memphis and schools like Ole Miss is the lineman. Simply put, there are not nearly as many good linemen out there as there are skilled players.

You must have missed the Rebel receivers. THEY are the difference.

The Rebel offense is really good. FSU, AL and GA had the same issues stopping them. But FSU and AL have better defenses than us and were able to create key turnovers.

Many hardcore SEC friends gave a shout out to Memphis. Couple of key turnovers got us.

When Paxton was raw kid on bad team to Ferguson as a Junior with many weapons at skill positions?

Pressure off the edge affected the throw, I thought. Now, was he supposed to throw outside and missed or was Montiel supposed to turn in and the ball be there. That is something CMN can answer.

I love his grit and fight, but I wouldn't go so far as to say he was the best player on the field. If he was, we don't lose by three TD's. He gets a little loose with the ball, and needs to shore up his decision-making to beat the best teams, but......I still really like him.

I agree. Plus Paxton had a more experienced O line ( at least the last couple seasons he did) I think our O Line is good and will get better with experience, but if I put myself in their place leaning over looking at those enemy dudes lined up to take me out...I would need some experience to read the nuances, eye shifts and twitches of the D dudes.

OK Bottom line: Why do peeples take one play and point blame at the QB (or even one dude) based on a few isolated plays or moves? FB is a team sport and everything that has happened before goes into how the QB or any player reacts in any given moment. I don't know FB, but I'm open to learning.

Yes he did but with question marks. Is he a Jay Culter type who fumbles a lot and gives up totally bizarre interceptions quite often -such as the one to TE- or will he develop to be a solid QB like Lynch- protective of the ball and a reassuring presence in the huddle? Not referring to talent levels but styles of play and learning curve.
