Up next UTSA. Hopefully it's 3 W's in a row after two losses.

RE: UTSA Discussion
To keep hope alive for a bowl we have to win the next three in a row. UTSA played very well this week against Az.St. I had this down as a win in the pre-season. Considering our play so far, and UTSAs surprising competitiveness, I now I think it's 50/50. Monarchs will need to play well to pull it out, but they have the talent to win this one. Especially at home.

RE: UTSA Discussion
Going back to spring when there was a VERY early guess our record thread I had us losing against App and NC State.

My guess will not win me any love here.
5-7

I figured we would be better but not enough to win. If we had a kicker that App game would have been different. I still feel we are better then the next 3 teams. I do feel however that UNCC is better then everybody gives them credit for. Of the next 3, that is the game I'm worried about.

Really hoping ODU puts the heat on UTSA. Might as well beat as many conference mates as possible.

Agreed.
I'm hoping the games we win, we win big. We'll see.

Has there been any word on when tailgate lots open? Normally with the homecoming parade, they open an hour earlier.

We'll be at this one, too! Looking forward to it although I can admit I know nothing about San Antone. Might go find some film and educate myself.

I hope they open the tailgate lots at 9:30am. The parade is at 10:30am. If they open at 11:30 which is the normal 4hr before the game we will have a mess.

They were beating ASU 28-18 and ended up falling apart losing 28-32. A pass interference call probably lost the game for them.

I think everyone had us at 1-2 entering this game. With that said, I think it will be a tougher game then we expected but I'm confident we can pull out the win.

32-28 ODU wins

Folks, we are right where we all thought we would be at this point: 1-2. I think we start the CUSA schedule off right with a win here. Get Lawry rested and healthy and we will be able to put up points.

RE: UTSA Discussion
Dalton Sturm. The QB for UTSA is mobile, is a very good passer and will tuck and run when necessary.
UTSA runs a spread that is most effective passing. The Road Runners rush 30+ times a game but so far have not been nearly as effective on the ground.
Sturm spreads it out between WRs, RBs, and TEs.

So far our strength has been against the run. Historically, we have had problems with QBs who can run vertically and can pass.
This will be a challenge.

UTSA has a tenacious 4-3 base defense but it will give you multiple looks. It will blitz, especially from the edge.

San Antonio has almost beaten MWC Co. State (in the mix for Big XII expansion) and Pac 12 Arizona State this season. In both cases they were worn down.
I really don't see us wearing them down.

Home field advantage will help, but the one word I would use to describe UTSA is "tough".
If we cannot contain Sturm's running AND pressure his passing, it will be a long day indeed.

UTSA 31 ODU 17

ODU has to establish the run. If we can consistently run the ball on UTSA, we will win a close game. Otherwise, I see another blow out.

At least Justice Davila will be back and won't miss the first half from the targeting penalty. ODU appealed the targeting call and the league office said he shouldn't have been ejected.

RE: UTSA Discussion
The score in the ASU game was closer than it should have been. ASU ran 79 plays for 469 yards. UTSA ran 67 for 322. ASU fumbled a punt on their 14 yard line which was converted to a TD. They fumbled at their 24 yard line another time. They threw a pick when driving into UTSA territory. That is a pretty misleading box score.

They have not been able to run the ball a lick. Averaging 33 carries for 85 yards. Our run defense has been decent so far, nothing great, but certainly a step up from last year. Hopefully they don't get much on the ground. Last year they didn't do too much on the ground, under 4 yards per carry. They have a good passing attack, but give up 4 sacks per game and we are pretty good at rushing the passer so hopefully we can disrupt.

On offense, they seem to have a better pass defense and the run defense is ok. Hopefully, DW is more comfortable in the pocket and can make some throws bc we could have a balanced attack on them. Last year we gashed them on offense.

Our special teams is much improved outside of kicking field goals.

We opened up as a 3 point fave. I expect that to go up a little bit. Could be a close game, I think we have a good shot at winning.

That was just a bad call. I understand why they called it, but there was nothing Davilla could have done differently in that spot. The ball carrier lowered his head and Davilla was trying to tackle him.

I really don't see UTSA having improved that much from last year. If the score goes the way you guess then we really have no hope.
I think it'll be a close game, maybe coming down to the last 5 min or so with ODU coming out on top, and I think it'll be a shoot out.

ODU 42 UTSA 35

35 to 21...UTSA. I just don't see us being able to win this game with a horrible OL, no kicking game, and a defense that cannot get stops on 3rd down and has trouble stopping mobile QBs. The only way we have a chance is if we can have some success running the ball and limit their possessions.

RE: UTSA Discussion
This is a rebuilding year for Colorado State. They are not a very good team at all. Strum is a worry because of his dual threat ability, but he's going to have to play a great game for UTSA to win.

I expect Pascal to have a huge day unless they double him every play.
