UC Random stats
So far this year through 2 games:

UC is 8 of 9 in the red zone in 2016, scoring on 88 percent of its opportunities.
Six of the eight scores have been TDs.
UC scored all four times it reached the red zone against Purdue, tallying 24 points.

The Houston game marks UC’s 17th all-time Thursday night affair with UC holding a 12-4 all-time record, including a 9-1 mark inside Nippert Stadium.
Since 2007 in Nippert Stadium, UC is 7-1 on Thursday night and outscoring its opponents by a 293-101 margin.

Master jinxer! I'm more of a believer in "the law of averages" when it comes to this sort of thing. Quick. Do something to unjinx this!

It's like during the Purdue game when they flashed the stat "Cinci has converted the last 12 3rd downs" sure enough we missed. And then missed. And then missed again after that.

I think that is called regression to the mean.

As frustrated as I was with Gran's red zone playcalling, I was totally impressed with Taylor's against Purdue. Seemed to have the perfect call dialed up when we needed it.

Well said. Averaging 37 points or so last year was exciting to watch at times but I think it took its toll on the team as the season rolled on. Short offensive possessions kept the UC defense on the field much too long. A pass nearly every play also exposes the QB to more physical contact and injury. I'm sure with all those weapons at wide receiver it seemed like the right strategy but this balanced offense seems to be setting up a much more successful season.

yeah I like having a ball control offense with good running because it chews up clock, keeps the other team's offense off the field, and it gives your defense of rest.

even in 2009 you saw it take a toll on our defense our defense in the early part of that year was a lot better then was by seasons and.

Gran's offense put up huge numbers between the 20's. His redzone offense stunk, period. Granted I'm no Jones fan, but at least his offense during his time here knew how score inside the redzone. I'm seeing some similarities with Taylors offense. Control the ball to control the game, whereas Gran's offense was a complete lack of control and hope to score enough points to win. 2009 defense was smoke and mirrors for sure, but that offense was special. I'm looking forward to see more twists and wrinkles in Taylor's offense - we've only seen 30-40% of the playbook.

That's the difference between having great players and being a great play-caller.

The turnovers last year also put the D in impossible situations.
