Are jokes off limits? Should I pull the Weekend At Tommies out of my avatar?

Not sure what has not been civil but I do not read all threads so perhaps I missed something. Should we only post things we would say to Tubberville face to face? That may be less civil actually. Never mind. Ha!

Just as I thought. This is all about soccer.

I agree with rath - this board is more tame than it was years ago (when I was mostly a lurker). I also understand the need to put a message like that out on occasion.

Here's to the hope of a big celebration this fall. I may even pull some moose steaks out of my freezer for a tailgate.......

Long over-due in my opinion. Constructive criticism is always welcome by this Bearcat fan but this board makes my eyes bleed of late... personally I think it's every bit as bad as it has ever been. I think the perspective of whether it's bad or good depends on where you are on an issue.

Never thought I'd see the day this forum is conforming to a nanny state mentality.

Maybe an example? I just don't want to be the first offender.

I notice that a certain poster who never seems to let a thread go by without a post has not posted here yet. Should I read into that?

When you make 44,000 a week and **** the bed on a regular basis you deserve more than criticism. I agree with the players for the most part too but again people are entitled to their opinion. I just can't stand all this pc crap and group think.

Not sure how being civil equates with "PC crap and group think".

Pretty sure this board is wayyyy far down on the list of things affecting recruiting and the athletic department right now. I hope I'm right.

You ask good questions here. Criticism is welcome, and in the case of Tubs, well-deserved. But our main target is this, "FIRE TUBERVILLE", or "This guy's a bowlcationing clown", every game. There just gets to be a tipping point where it becomes over-the-top.

You're right, this site is very civil, in terms of respecting one another's opinions. The context here is, that we shouldn't come off as if we were UK bluenecks, or the like.

RE: Time to Clean Up Our Act - Notice From the Mods
(09-09-2016 08:12 AM)bearcatjim Wrote:  Greetings Fellow Banter Mates-

We, the moderators of this forum, have decided it's high time we restore some dignity to our great site, with the eye on representing ourselves proudly to the outside world that reads our site. Keep in mind, this site is read by athletic department personnel, recruits (and potential recruits), current players, and their parents and families. IT IS PUBLIC...and popular, even for non-members. You need only look at the 3.25 Million page views of our realignment thread to recognize that.

As Bearcat faithful, we've been through a tough stretch these last few years, having P6 status ripped away from us and watching this torturous process of hoping for P5 inclusion unfold. It's not easy. We are emotional. We tend to overreact to news, games...hell, even individual game decisions. I say "we" because I am here with my banjo on my knee too. I've been as guilty as many at certain times.

Bearing that in mind, it's time to take a collective deep breath and realize that we are representing the school that we all love and for which we all want nothing but the best. Going forward, the mods will be playing a bit more "Big Brother" than we have historically. Hopefully the need for this will be temporary, as we all start to see the benefits of being better stewards and representatives of our beloved alma mater. The mods can't be everywhere all the time, we have day jobs too. So we are asking you to self-regulate as best as humanly possible.

That said, if you see threads with inflammatory titles (Fire So and so!!! - for example) start to disappear, you'll know why. It doesn't have to be all sunshine and rainbows, we know that's not realistic, but if you go off the rails with negativity, you'll be warned, and encouraged to rethink/edit your post. Everybody gets frustrated and emotional. The best advice I can give, and of which I will be reminding myself, is "would you say this if you were live, in person, with a group of people, IN PUBLIC"? Because really, you are. The cloak of anonymity gives people some "internet muscles". Stop and think if that's really how you want to represent yourself and your university.

Thanks in advance for self-regulating, and making our jobs as mods as easy as possible. Here's to putting our best face forward as our university is embarking on the most exciting time in its history!

Sincerely,
Bearcatjim

A sincere THANK YOU! We are all the Bearcats family. Great things lie ahead. I just feel it!

RE: Time to Clean Up Our Act - Notice From the Mods
Back in the bad old days of Nancy Z and Huggy Bear my friend Greg Ruehlmann, Mod Supreme, used to smash me with a 9 pound blackthorn shillelegh in the noggin when needed...and since he was several standard deviations brighter than me it was better to just shut up since thereis no additional knowledge learned from the second kick from a mule. But I digress.

This is probably a very good preventative measure to keep sanity around here if things go sideways tomorrow in West Lafayette. Hopefully it will not be necessary in retrospect.

Nanny state!! Nice.

Well done - you cleared that shark with ease my friend.

Feel free to say what you want to say (within the AUP, obviously). We are just trying to avoid making this place into a pile-on dumpster fire.

Which can happen pretty quickly - especially when we start seeing FIRE TT!!!! threads in the fist half of game ONE.

How many times and places have we seen a fire become a conflagration? Here - yep. Bearcatnews - sheesh absolutely.

Just a half ounce of consideration regarding how something would look to an uninformed outsider - that is all. Because YES, you can absolutely assume they are basically ALL reading this stuff from the AD dept. people to the media to recruits and parents of recruits.

The truth is we are all basically writing mini "YELP" reviews in every thread. You might think that carries no weight in decision making - but as a dude who asks potential recruits/candidates such questions about information gathering and decision making for a living - I can tell you for a fact - it does matter.

Jokes are ok. As long as they're funny. And that one is! LOL

For the few of you who are getting your dander up, don't prejudge. This is not an overhaul we're calling for. Just a reminder to be decent citizens.

Thanks!
