I'd rather have 25 thousand for a bad football team than 19k for a powerhouse team that's probably going to the Big 12. What? Oh, they're not going to the Big 12? Um, how about the Aack? It's a powerhouse conference for many, right, so that's good.

Look I get it...

attendance is about the only thing you have to point a finger at and say..."look at us". Good for your school...hey at least it's something. But lets get real. You would trade your left nut and take 100 fans showing up for a conference championship.

But let me ask you a question...are you one of those fans that love to talk about something they are not involved in? If I went back and checked the UTEP game day threads for home games....

would you be a paying fan or a key board fan bragging about those that showed up? I hope you are a fan that supports his team with a ticket. Hell one day before you die your team might actually win something. Doubtful but there is always that slim chance.

What are WKU's ticket prices like? Assuming with a stadium that size they are pretty high?

perception wise 25k in a 40k stadium hurts more than 19k in 22k.

A lot of Western fans want to expand and put the number of seats in our stadium to 30-35k. Not me. I think it's a stupid ideal to out grown your fansbase (with seats) before they are needed. It hurts in a couple ways...actually more but I will list my two key ways.

1. hurts in season ticket sales. If a fan knows they will get a good seat on game day they have no reason to buy season tickets. But if it's hard getting a ticket by walking up then season tickets will increase. You need to find the balance in that.

2. You never expand if it's only for that one game a year where you need the 40k and the other 5 are 25k. It looks worse for those other 5 games...perception wise.

As fans we want to point to size (number of seats) and say look at me. But is that really needed if 40 to 50% is going unused 75 to 80% of the time ?

Some perceive that those small stadiums are high school or junior college stadiums. I actually had a couple of high school students ask me last year why Southern Miss was playing in a high school stadium for a championship game. Small stadiums look small time on TV even when they are mostly full or full.

Like I said earlier, all of the teams in CUSA have a long way to go in this department. I do think all teams need to have stadiums that seat at least a 30,000 - 35,000. You can come up with creative ways to cover up empty sections if you need to. My opinion.

Maybe you should stop hanging around high school students? Unless you are one yourself. Do you really take the opinion of a high school kid often? Or it really means something? My god, high school...it's a safe bet that if 50 high school students from BG watched that game S. Miss was a high school or Jr college the way Western manhandled S. Miss. That's high school kids. Any ranking of stadiums will have Western's at the top part of CUSA on ACTUAL college stadium. Any most visiting fans that actually attend a game at Western will tell you the same.

As I said most people couldn't tell you how many seats a stadium has from watching on TV....

So if you need to cover up 10,000 seats every game...then wouldn't that make your stadium small? Not to mention unneeded? So if that is the trick...Western has another 20,000 seats...we are hiding them with tents and grass. You just cant see them.

Really, hiding seats, with tarps...and you talking about small 03-lmfao

I work with high school kids weekly, so yes, I spend a good bit of time with them and at their sporting events. You do realize that it's high school kids that your team recruits to become the players of your college team. Why are teams building IPFs and so worried about facilities? To influence high school kids. Both of the kids that said that to me are high school athletes and one will have the opportunity to play after high school, though not at a high level. Their opinion matters. (Currently, your staff is doing a good job evaluating talent, getting talent to Bowling Green, and then developing that talent.)

Yes, your stadium looks like a glorified high school stadium on TV. But, dont worry. You are not alone. Much of CUSA and the Sun Belt looks the same. However, as you have mentioned, it is much better to be winning the games on the field than having large attendance. I would hope that WKU could take advantage of this stretch of dominant football to build the fanbase and increase the stadium capacity.

And like I said, we all have work to do in this category.

Oh, how cute. A wku fan masquerading as an ecu fan. We lost ecu blowhards and gained wku.

I'm a season ticket holder and I am a member of the Miner fan club. I do my best to bring in a crowd and last game there were about 15 of us with some missing because of other things.

RE: CUSA Attendance/Week One?
The success WKU is having now is building on a new generation of fans that will last. The lack of success the 6-7 years prior is the generation of fans we lost out on. if you can keep your students envolved is key. I think WKU will grow attendance each of the next 3-5 years until our numbers are respectful.

Damn son! Quit sucking up to these blow hards. I would put WKU game day atmosphere in the Top 5, probably Top 3 in the conference.

Not sucking up, I just see our fan base growing over the next few years. I've been pretty vocal about the BS attendance smack in the other thread and the stupidity that it is.

Are 20,000 plus seat stadiums prevalent at Mississippi and West Virginia High Schools? Because they certainly aren't in Virginia. I can't think of a single one.

Been to both, Marshall during a medicore year and WKU for a Championship Game....I beg to differ.

Wish we did the per seat license. I pay $1000 Eagle Club membership plus $400+ for two 50 yard line season tickets on visiting side. I could get 4 tickets at my membership level though.
If I paid a pet seat license I could take the $500 savings and add it to my EC donation and move to the home side. Which would mean no sitting in the sun for the first half in early season games. In south Mississippi...pretty big deal sometimes.

Well, let me put it this way. I've heard girls say that size doesn't matter, unless of course it's either really small or really big. None of us are really big. A couple are really small. I don't feel it's real productive to ride down FIU on their bad attendance, they know it's bad. And comparing the rest doesn't really matter. We Monarchs are proud of the support and attendance Monarch Nation shows to our programs. Does that make us better than MT? It certainly hasn't on the field and courts so far.

We all know that 6 1/2 inches is bigger than 6 1/4 but if you're not working with 9 it doesn't really matter.

You can sit in D or F on the west side for that level of giving. Plenty of open seats.
When the end zone was enclosed nothing was done to fill the empty seats created by people moving to the club and suites.
Or you can add 250 to that, restructure it and move to the end zone club level.
