It's funny that the only ones that don't think it's important to have butts in the seats are the ones that don't have butts in the seats. It's sad that wku is such a powerhouse and then find out that no one other than the die-hards care. I'd rather have 25 thousand for a bad football team than 19k for a powerhouse team that's probably going to the Big 12. What? Oh, they're not going to the Big 12? Um, how about the Aack? It's a powerhouse conference for many, right, so that's good.

perception wise 25k in a 40k stadium hurts more than 19k in 22k.
A lot of Western fans want to expand and put the number of seats in our stadium to 30-35k. Not me. I think it's a stupid ideal to out grown your fansbase (with seats) before they are needed. It hurts in a couple ways...actually more but I will list my two key ways.
1. hurts in season ticket sales. If a fan knows they will get a good seat on game day they have no reason to buy season tickets. But if it's hard getting a ticket by walking up then season tickets will increase. You need to find the balance in that.
2. You never expand if it's only for that one game a year where you need the 40k and the other 5 are 25k. It looks worse for those other 5 games...perception wise.
As fans we want to point to size (number of seats) and say look at me. But is that really needed if 40 to 50% is going unused 75 to 80% of the time ?
Until you have 40k in your own stadium you wouldn't understand.
Having the extra seats was definitely worth it for Purdue last season.
It will definitely be worth it with another sell out for Louisville this season.
It takes WKU 2 home games to equal the same attendance we had for Purdue last season, and will have for Louisville this season.....let that sink it.
Let me see if you can let it "sink in" 5 out of 6 games every year Marshall has 40% up in empty seats. It will take Marshall 1.58 games for it to get the attendance of that one game.
5 OUT OF 6 with 40% up in empty seats
What Marshall needs is a stadium close by that could hold the 38k for a Purdue or a W. Virg or a UofL . Just as Western did when we played our home game vs uk 45 miles away and had 48k.
Marshall was 11-0 top 20 and had 23,576 for game 12 ...so as I said 1 out 6 games Marshall will fill the stadium.
5 out of 6 40%+ empty seats....that is what's shown on TV 83% of Marshall's home games

No what you really would like to have is WINNING FOOTBALL. So stop lying to yourself if you think 6,000 extra in attendance is that important.
But again...your stadium is 50% full or 50% empty if you want to look at it that way. So why is 25k the number you use? I think you should be concerned about getting fans to use some of that 50% empty seats.
But that's OK your school can have the attendance king title....
the rest of us are playing for a conference championship

Actually I believe we all want both. Wins and fans. Not one or the other. But the season has to play out. I think a Marshall or USM that wins will bring in a lot of fans. That's good for the long haul since that's where a good chunk of the budget comes from. We all have a ways to go.

Yep, and no one cares.
We had 31k for a UTEP game. Wow, considering we're so bad (in your eyes) that's about 12 thousand more than what you were able to muster. Like I said, for a power house team like wku (in your eyes) that's pretty miserable. But, maybe one day your fan base will care and come out to the games.
Besides, you beat Rice, not exactly a power team. Mediocre perhaps, (like us) but not newsworthy like you. LOL, sorry, I laughed at that.
Beat Alabama and I guarantee I'll never say a bad thing about your team, your attendance though is another matter.

EDIT: I will keep a running tally posted after each week is complete
This is a great number for North Texas, considering last season was the worst in our 103 year football history. To be totally fair, SMU brought a large crowd too (2-3K).
I know some on here like to dismiss markets as not being important, but they are. UNT averaged around 13,000 last season because the fan base rebelled against the athletic director and his leadership. When Seth Littrell turns this thing around and we start winning games, 24,718 will be considered a small crowd for North Texas.
Because we showed improvement over last season, I believe we will still have a respectable crowd this week, even though we are playing Cookman. My guess is around 21,000.
I beg to differ about your crowd size if you are winning. 2013 NT went 9-4, average season attendance 21,030. Maybe if you had consecutive seasons like that...........I dunno.
And that is why I want UTEP to be successful. I know how good they can look when they are. Now if they'd just invest in a good coach and stop hoping for the best on random coordinators/position coaches.

Some perceive that those small stadiums are high school or junior college stadiums. I actually had a couple of high school students ask me last year why Southern Miss was playing in a high school stadium for a championship game. Small stadiums look small time on TV even when they are mostly full or full.
Like I said earlier, all of the teams in CUSA have a long way to go in this department. I do think all teams need to have stadiums that seat at least a 30,000 - 35,000. You can come up with creative ways to cover up empty sections if you need to. My opinion.

If you ask me, WKU regardless of the game is a better stadium and atmosphere than any Marshall game I've either seen or attended. Who cares if you have 8000 more butts in the seats if it sucks.
That's our stadium every game, even with 40% of the seats empty.
Your cute little girl, because you are full of it. You remind me of UK fans, because they are wearing blue blinders and beleive nobody could touch what they're precious wildcats have and twist and turn things anyway they can to make themselves feel superior. In the grand scheme of things , a few thousand fans don't mean jack considering most strong programs have 60-100k in attendance. We are all at the bottom in attendance compared them and at our level, winning is the single most important thing . Fact is Marshall and all they're extra 5 thousand fans have never seen themselves EVER beat WKU...... EVER
Let me put it this way: if you were to ask me which one I would choose for FAU, a 30K attendance with a 3-9 record or a 15K attendance with a 7-5 record, I would gladly choose the latter.

Maybe you should stop hanging around high school students? Unless you are one yourself. Do you really take the opinion of a high school kid often? Or it really means something? My god, high school...it's a safe bet that if 50 high school students from BG watched that game S. Miss was a high school or Jr college the way Western manhandled S. Miss. That's high school kids. Any ranking of stadiums will have Western's at the top part of CUSA on ACTUAL college stadium. Any most visiting fans that actually attend a game at Western will tell you the same.
As I said most people couldn't tell you how many seats a stadium has from watching on TV....
So if you need to cover up 10,000 seats every game...then wouldn't that make your stadium small? Not to mention unneeded? So if that is the trick...Western has another 20,000 seats...we are hiding them with tents and grass. You just cant see them.
Really, hiding seats, with tarps...and you talking about small

Here's the thing I was one of those 23,500 that showed up to watch Marshall try to end their season undefeated (regular season and get a 7 million dollar payday). You never stepped a foot in BG to watch the total domination of Marshall by Western this past season...
So who would be the better judge of what each stadium is like? I can tell you this...outside of the we are Marshall cheer...
your stadium had very little to make any visiting fan think of "excitement"
Yeah...it will be there for the start of the UofL game...but again and pay close attention because I really hating repeating something over and over and over again.
That's 1 out of 6 games each year. Only then if Marshall schedules a P5 school...which is 1 out of the last 3 years.
You would trade all 23,500 of those fans for a win over Western...just one
