Because we hold sport and its athletes, owners, clubs, leagues, etc to a very high standard.
Tiger cheats on his wife and some golf purists still don't respect him yet. Tom Brady has balls deflated and he literally does get a federal case. Donald Sterling is found to be racist by dubious means and he gets a lifetime ban. Pete Rose gambles...lifetime ban. Players do steroids to get an advantage, no hall of fame regardless of how good you were. Michael Phelps smokes weed, suspended 3 months. Lance Armstrong does some shady ****, stripped of his whole legacy. Colin Kaepernick sits during the national anthem and people call for him to be cut, fined, shamed, etc. Ray Rice doesn't get a second chance. Michael Sam is disliked from day one. The list goes on and on.
How would this election look if we handled politics with the same vigor?
Actually we DO know how people think of Donald Trump when held to the standards of the sports world. There's a nice copy of a $3.76 check written for the USFL that's still not cashed and he's never sniffed the NFL owner status that he wanted.
As for Hillary...she'd have been penalized several times over by now. Cheating got Bill Belichik a $500,000 fine and the Patriots organization $250,000. The way she colluded with the DNC and media to keep Bernie down would've easily gotten that. Funneling money pretty much ended SMU.
Hell, it even applies to journalism. ESPN is held to so high of a standard that the entire country skewers them for not meeting it. You don't see that with MSNBC or Fox.
