Sun Belt Opener: Georgia Southern at South Alabama Discussion
What a way to start the conference schedule. Excited and nervous for this one. Was hoping to have 3 easy weeks before we into the gauntlet of our schedule, but no such luck.

The number one concern for us IMO is depth issues with the offensive line and penalties, and also the young secondary going up against Dallas Davis and the receivers.

The good news for us is that our run defense is really stout (not basing this off of the first game) and the passing resembles a college team's passing.

honestly not much to discuss

youre a triple option team and we suck against the triple option

I see Georgia Southern very similar to Miss St defensively. Strong front seven but young secondary. GaSo is going to get their points so USA will have to score a lot to keep up.
Even though USA's DL isn't overpowering, their strong back seven will help against perimeter runs as well as the Eagles' new-fangled passing attack. Can they get a few stops to give the offense a chance? That's the question.

I'm really looking forward to this game. We've never had an answer for the triple option, but new year and new DC. Hopefully this guy will turn it around and get us our first win over the Eagles. Then we can focus on the Wolves.

The Belt seems wide open at this point... And it's early... How do Tenn and Miss st compare? Time will tell...but have to give the early nod to USA and App thus far... But like I say... It's very early and things change....GS will be in the picture as will stAte, I'm sure...

I think back to our 2014 game with South. We won that game because (1) Brandon Bridge couldn't hit the broad side of a barn and (2) we were able to pass the ball to get breathing room for the option.

The South team I watched reminds me of the 2014 USA team but with a better QB.

It's going to be tough.

GaSo's rightfully a 13 point opening favorite in Vegas.

My guess is that Vegas believes most bettors will be well aware USA's never beaten an option team and probably counting on a let-down after a huge win.

This is one is probably going to be a barn-burner. More than likely will be decided in the last couple of minutes. South will win in front of a large crowd for it's first win over the Eagles.

Never can tell about our home attendance, but if there aren't 25,000 butts in the stands, I will be disappointed. After the win over Miss. State, we need a big crowd to stand a chance against y'all. How many tickets did GSUs get?

We should get 21-22k, but we'll announce 16k.

I'm looking forward to the game. USA is probably a slight dog. But we will see. We're playing with house money in this one.

RE: Sun Belt Opener: Georgia Southern at South Alabama Discussion
Southern hired a defensive coach for a reason. I expect Southern to continue their dominance over the majority of the belt but with more fervor on defense rather than simply out running everyone and this will be the first example. While holding SSU scoreless isn't surprising, a shut out in college football is rare regardless of who is playing. I believe that shutout is an example of a new edge the defense has and I wouldn't be surprised, much like last year, to see South Alabama fall back to Earth after week 1.
