I am very excited about the Ole Miss/FSU game.

On paper it is the most interesting matchup in my opinion.

RE: SEC Games Week 1. (Plus Some Notables)
No problem :).

I can't take much credit though. ESPN had it listed nice and easy. I just figured I'd make it a little more accessible for us and give us a discussion thread at the same time.

We're fortunate to have so many big games lined up. Auburn and Ole Miss play the ACCs top teams. As of now on paper we're both expected to lose. Alabama and Texas A&M play 2 of the top 3 teams in the PAC 12. Georgia plays the ACCs #4. LSU plays a top 5 B1G team.

It's gonna be great!

After losing to El Cit (my brother actually used to live next to their practice field and USC should be ashamed of that loss), you should have a bad feeling about playing anyone.

Just an open comment here, but there is 1 hard and fast rule for this board. We don't smack talk, rag, or troll. There is enough of that crap on the main board. Discussion is welcome. And anyone is welcome here to discuss topics. Anyone who tries to troll here will not be warned. They will simply be banned. This is twice you've tried this stuff on our board. Keep it to discussion and we'll be fine.

It wasn't the first time I read it, but after your last post I'd certainly say it was suspect.

RE: SEC Games Week 1. (Plus Some Notables)
Some takeaways from the first half of tonight's games:

First for Gamecock. I held my remarks, but I'm sorry to say the same ole Muschamp is showing up as a head coach. He's a great defensive coordinator truly. But, he has no organizational skills as a head coach. It's showing again tonight. He doesn't recognize the qualities of a good offensive coordinator. Therefore, he hasn't really had one at Florida, and doesn't appear to have one tonight.

I'd say your post on exceeding expectations is going to be a bit optimistic. BTW Chizic had the same issues. He'll be great as a DC at UNC. But, he's not a head coach and was lucky to have Cam Newton.

Now for Tennessee. There are no fundamental skills being taught to all of those athletes. I've watched the O line whiff on multiple blocks in the first half and simple blocks at that. The guard whiffed on the inside linebacker on a screen. He had the angle but he had his head in the wrong position to execute.

The pass that Appy scored on the corner screwed up twice. First he let the receiver get behind him and then second he failed to locate the ball on what was an under thrown pass that could have been an easy interception if he had been schooled to find the ball. I see way too much of these things today. The difference between championship coaches and recruiters is teaching. Tennessee has not been taught to play at this level. They obviously have the athletes, but are sloppy, high school like executors of the plays. That won't cut it. If the SEC East wasn't still so danged weak I'd say the Vols were destined for 5 losses.

So far in this game the total difference is in coaching. App State is executing and UT is not. Quicker better disciplined D Linemen for App State are making the large Tennessee line look like buffoons.

Also there is no excuse for a second year quarterback to still consistently throw the ball off of his back foot which is why he fails on the deep ball and is over looping his mid-range passes.

I know I'm a geezer but we are paying these putzes (head coaches) millions of dollars and the lazy bastards are slopping through their duties. Just saying! And hey, I don't expect much better out of Malzahn either. He is only focused on offense but hasn't recruited a decent quarterback prospect since Cam Newton (who was a freak of nature and an all pro). Remember Marshall was a converted defensive back. If he had a better arm we might have won a second Natty. But no deep threat coupled with a woeful defense meant we deserved to lose.

Claiming the ability to win isn't the issue. Smack talk is the issue. We don't do that on this board period! It's not CS & CR and we purposefully made this board the way it is a couple of years ago to avoid that childish crap. Abide by our rules or adios!

@JR yeah same ole muschamp, Mason is outcoaching the hell out of him. I think mcilwain has potential but knowing muschamps offensive ability I doubt he will materialize. Definitely hoping app state makes the cocks the second most disappointed fanbase tonight, the mountaineers are playing very well, on the 9th anniversary of the miracle at the big house no less. Anyhow still see a gamecock win tonight don't know why

Depth got them. It certainly wasn't coaching or effort. They'll be fine. Tennessee has oodles of work to do. They better hope Va Tech does too.

And BTW everything I said at the half still stands whether Vandy wins or not.

RE: SEC Games Week 1. (Plus Some Notables)
Whew, that App State game was rough. Tennessee got some huge breaks tonight.

Missed XP.
Missed FG.
Fumble recovery in the endzone.

Defense held App State scoreless in the 2nd half. Tennessee scored 17 in the 2nd half and OT.

Butch Jones didn't use Dobbs alot tonight and they didn't really do much down field.

That App State line looks very good against Tennessees O-Line and Hurd couldn't really get much going.

What a game though. Alot of heart from App State and way to pull it out Tennessee. I was sweating bullets at the end of it.

Dobbs also made some questionable throws. 1 for a pick in the 1st half, and I was hoping the throw in the 4th didn't turn into a pick 6. Which it didn't!

A win is a win. Hopefully this humbles them a bit and they go out and handle Virginia Tech. Coach Fuente is very conservative. I think he had 8-9 minute drives when he was at Memphis. Gotta take full advantage on offense.
