I love modern journalism. Someone pulls a story out of their ass and once it simmers for about a week, it can be cited as fact.
this realignment saga in a nutshell. One guy posts something, another media guy interviews that media guy, they publish it as gospel and away we go. round and round and round we go.
This...The guy ends article by saying its not going to happen. Click bait anyone.

Exit fee is $10 million and if they leave before 27 months are up, then they have to pay extra. Previous presidence says it will be aroungd $15 million.
The Big East is already over paid, so they are assuming that Fox is gonna cough up an extra $4 million a year just for Uconn.... but I think they would.
So Uconn moves to the Big East so they can make an extra $2 million a year. So in FIVE years, they finally break even from the exit fee (assuming they somehow dont have to pay extra).
Within that same timeframe the AAC will be renegotiating its broadcast rights and will certainly be making $4 million or more.
So, again, I say that Blauds and all the other "Uconn to the Big east" crowd are full of crap.
Yes, but at least thei fans have something to cheer for.

Here's what all the naysayers in here don't calculate in. UConn is a national power and brand in college hoops. Sure their football suffers if they go BEast, but even worse, their hoops suffers if they stay. Sometimes it's simply more important than just money. No B12...and they're going home.

You hit some good points.
I agree, UConn is a sexy basketball program and should be associated with like minded basketball teams but let's be real here, this league is only starting to gel.
If the AAC could only strengthen the basketball side just a little cough... Wichita State... cough... I don't see why this league with its current TV exposure can blossom even more while football keeps rocking and strengthening it's backbone.

If you go to UConn's home board...they despise this conference. They hated it when UL came over with UC. They are only casual Cfb fans. Haven't been there in a while, but if both UL and UC are gone, they will be out of their collective mind about being in the AAC. If it can even get any worse. They will want to be in the beast.

I mean... UConn only won a freaking basketball championship in this conference, what else are they really looking for? Money that would be identical to ours already?

Their ticket sales may be down. I imagine their fans would rather see Saint Johns, Providence, Seton Hall, Georgetown, Villanova, and Marquette over the AAC schools. Nothing against AAC schools, but there is no shared history and a lot of mileage separating UCONN from conference foes.
Football independence would allow them more flexibility to schedule historical/regional rivals.

Connecticut has been to a BCS bowl game.
So has Hawaii, it doesn't really matter if you don't win.

I don't know the exact fan numbers for UConn to the Fiesta Bowl but the ones constantly tossed around are pure BS. People purchased on the secondary market and UConn had way more than a few thousand people there.
