WKU football will apparently be unveiling new uniforms for the upcoming season on Saturday at Fan Fest.

We just signed a new contract with Russell Athletic that is located right here in Bowling Green. We are to Russell what Oregon is to Nike. Anxious to see what their top of the line stuff is now. This last set of uniforms we had were a major success.

Don't get rid of the chrome dome helmets, those are sweet.

I don't think the Chrome helmets are going anywhere. But word is WKU will have 2-4 new helmets to use in addition to the chrome ones. Including a Red Chrome.

You realize that Nike/Adidas/Russell/UA doesn't make helmets.. Those are deals with Riddell, Schutt, etc.

To be honest it doesn't matter to me if they wore all pink from the red being faded. All I want is WINS.

Nope. WKU get's stuff a year or 2 before Ga Tech gets them. When the new material for WKU's current uniform was made the President of Fruit of The Loom the parent company for Russell was at the unveiling and stated no other team would be able to get the uniform material for at least 2 seasons.

Fruit of The Loom and Russell Athletic headquarters are about 5 miles from the WKU campus.

I would take a new iPhone 7 from Cricket over a Motorola flip phone from AT&T. Because that is about the equivalent of what most schools get from Nike.

Oh, right, because where our uniforms are just uniforms, your Russell threads are wifi enabled and relay real time vital signs for all players, on top of of course making your players run faster, hit harder, recover faster, do better in class and actually lowers their cholesterol.

The problem with your analogy is that Cricket doesn't make the phone and in my analogy Russel is Cricket.

If you want to go with the hardware analogy I'd say it's more like you have the latest model from LG or Motorola where we have a model or two older version from Apple or Samsung.

If that's the case, then our home uniforms are rotary phones from Bell Atlantic.

No one in division one football, regardless of apparel provider, plays with the equivalent of a Motorola flip phone to a brand new iphone.

The athletic wear fabrication industry may be accelerating in technological advancement, but not nearly at the exponential rate at which cell phones advance.

The best flip phones were still phones they just also happened to be able to send and receive e-mail and access a very basic version of the internet. Today we walk around with powerful computers that get better every year that just also happen to be cellphones.

All of this because of a light hearted jab at my alma maters biggest rival.

I've said it before, I prefer Western's more classic look from their previous uniform set, but my preference for your previous uniforms and jokes about Russel aside, I really don't think it makes a whole lot of difference. Oregon and to a lesser extent Maryland are about the only schools that I think get any kind of real benefits from their apparel sponsors relative to their peers, but at the end of the day I don't see any of it as a marked advantage.

The year Nike did their combat gear I think the participating schools prolly got some benefit IMHO

I personally dislike the chrome helmets. I saw a photo of WKU's all white UNIs from Sumbelt days and thought those were much better than current ones. I'm anxious to see the new ones. Uniforms have always been an interest of mine
