I really honest to god question MD's mental health sometimes. The crazy ideas he spews out just can't be thought up by a rational man...

Just because we read he is a top candidate, doesn't mean he is interested.

How many schools are actually being considered for the Big 12? According to sports experts, everyone and there brother is a candidate. No one knows, as its all speculation.

he isn't applying. He is at a place where he is contacted to gauge his interest. Also, someone told me that there is a contingent in the Big 12 that does not like any of the potential schools. The challenge to me for the Big 12 is to keep Oklahoma and Texas happy

Exactly. Some of us are crying that he's interviewing and we don't even know if that's true. Just because his name is mentioned by the press or fans, doesn't mean a thing.

Pretty much. We aren't going to know until it's a done deal, if anything happens. I'm not going to worry about it.
That is a great attitude. Worry about what you can control is the healthiest decision. Sometimes these fans use this board as therapy juat voicing All their thoughts and issues. STF can't control if his name gets brought up in conversations and he deserves to move his career that best suits his family and himself. Lets sit back and see what happens. I'm sure good candidates are seeing a possible opening here and getting excited to apply. Being able to announce the next phase in the master plan would be huge for a new AD.

Just heard rumor that Frazier signed a new contract with NIU, which includes a buyout clause if he leaves, similar to a coaches buyout.

I heard that too, however, it does not preclude him from getting an offer he can't refuse. I never thought SF was a knee jerk reaction guy. I think he weighs things to try to make the best decision.

Yep he will be the AD at a very nice program someday. I am sure the only major frustration he has with NIU is not being able to roll out the Master Plan due to budget and political reasons. How can you Propose a $50 million dollar upgrade when Chicago State U might be shut down.

That and how apathetic our fan base is. Although ESPN and a boring conference doesn't help.

the lack of a budget is a burden, Chi St to me should be closed for good. I'd convert it into a magnet school and trade school. Much bigger bang for your buck. CSU has been mis managed for years.

NIU can't announce that they are throwing several millions of dollars at an athletics facility when schools around Illinois are threatening to close. Looks horrible for the school.

NIU has privately funded the Master plan so it isn't getting money from the state for it, but with the state school system hemorrhaging funds you don't announce massive athletics expenditures...

Unless you're a private school

The budget as the reason nothing is moving forward cannot hold forever. It could be years before a real budget is put in place as politics will continue to delay any real progress and I don't foresee that changing anytime soon. At some point I think you just have to say its time to move the upgrades forward if the money is there. Obviously a delicate subject but the way the state moves don't expect any meaningful resolution soon.

Unfortunately it might hold it back for quite a while... We'll see how bold STF gets a little closer to the start of the season. If we have an unexpectedly good year, he might pop the lid early

That is what I am hoping. I definitely understand both sides here but realistically the state budget will continue to be a looming issue for years. They just came off a full year with no budget and the interim budget is basically what they had before so you are pushing 18 months with no real reform. I doubt come November it will suddenly get ironed out. I think this will continue to be a long drawn out process.

It is above SF pay grade. He is being told by Board of Regents to wait.

That is nice to hear, especially before the start of the season. To me he shows some loyalty in signing a deal with a buyout.

This "crisis" has been going on for some time. Is every State school putting stuff on hold? Didn't ISU (football) and U of I (basketball) complete renovations recently? Were their improvement started when there WAS a budget?

I don't get it when you (supposedly) have the money. Seems to be a lot of powerful people trying to keep their image up and are afraid of the backlash. Or basically, really don't give a <rap about athletics.

If this is actually privately funded, what the hell difference does it make when it takes off? It's privately funded for a specific purpose at a specific school. It's not like you can take private funds for this and put them towards another public school's bailout. If they need money so bad, I'd suggest they find private funding for their cause. U of I wouldn't give a rats ass if they needed something done. Why should NIU?
