I agree. At 4 teams, USF and UCF will get in as a combo. TV markets was one of the 6 factors listed, and there isn't a better market available than the combined #4 market of Tampa/Orlando.

My predicted 4:

Cincinnati
UConn
USF
UCF

On a side note, USF and UCF need to be working together on this. Time to put away the rivalry for 2-3 months, work as a team, then go back to heated rivalry after securing a Big 12 invite.

I’m asking this as a serious question. I don’t disagree for a minute that the central Florida recruiting market would be extremely valuable to the Big12, but why use 2 spots and take both UCF and USF. I don't understand the logic of them being a package deal.

1.) You marginalize Miami, effectively limiting the ACC and SEC to penetration in north Florida.
2.) You become a major player in the middle of the state which have a population of nearly 8 million people.

Essentially the same way that the B12 is built as a Texas league with northern outposts, you will have an eastern version of Florida with northern outposts i.e. WVU, UConn, Cincinnati.

So then based on that logic wouldn’t it make more sense to take Cincy, UConn, Temple and USF or UCF?

Your still limiting the ACC and SEC Florida penetration, you become a recruiting player in the middle of the state, and by adding Temple you get the 4th largest TV market without using 2 spots and you add a second school that’s just as close to WVU as Cincy and gives you a solid northeast presence and an inroad into the PA and South Jersey recruiting markets.

I think the best combo is UCONN, UC, Temple and USF/UCF/Memphis. We'll see. It's crazy how this came back to life yesterday. The ACC might end up helping UCONN after all.

RE: Rumor mill churning... B12 to expand by 4?
I was the college football broadcasters' dream of the target audience, watching any teams, any conferences, any night. The tradition, pageantry and spirit of college football was the greatest show on earth. But now I just don't care. I haven't watched a game between two teams from the so-called power conferences in years. The only games I watch regularly now involve either my Pirates or conference mates, along with an occasional game from the other non-anointed leagues. So for me, Big 12 expansion means only that there will be a few more teams I will not watch, regardless of which teams are added from whatever conference. This is in no way a knock on those teams. The zeal of broadcasters, conference administrators and college presidents to transform amateur college football into a series of mini professional leagues made up of their select programs has disgusted me to the point where I am no longer the fan I once was.

I don't think that worked for the BE. South>North if population is about the same. B12 already has ties to a bowl in Florida. U_F>>>>>>>>>Temple.

Texas leaving actually HELPS the Big 12. The LHN is why they don't have a conference network yet.

Damn that would almost certainly eliminate usf depending on what happens.

Ouch, not that I'm a conspiracy theorists but sort of ironic this comes out the day after the Big 12 states it's expanding isn't it?

I think the ACC will preempt the Big 12 now that they know they're looking. Say what you will about them, but the ACC are smart...they already beat the Big 12 to Louisville and that was a boon, I could see them doing the same with UConn or UC, since they'll need one more to fill the odd numbered space when ND decides to join.

As much as I'd like to have some of our old rivalries back, UConn or Navy seem like the more logical choice there.

This is just a thought but what if they took Memphis,Cincinnati, and drumroll Temple. Don't laugh, you could surround WVU with very decent football and create a bball conference that could rival the ACC and Big. How many more TV sets would that add,what7-8mil? Then Houston for good measure, now the big12's is in big10 and security and access territory legitimately.

Apparently ESPN is applying the pressure for UCONN.

So if this happens, what does the AAC do?That's a lot of ground to make up and doesn't the contract come up for negotiation then?

Hard to believe they would expand by 4 and not add a team or two from Florida...... very hard to believe.

Well if that is the case it's UCF. They can't deal with the USF investigation headache as well as Baylor

If all four are east, I agree. If 2 east and 2 west, I disagree.

Texas and OU have said they don't like traveling to WVU and don't want to go further north.

I don't see them going for UConn or Temple.

This is a bidding war folks. This is the last chance. Teams that have the resources to join for the little or nothing and let those greedy bastards keep the money will get the golden ticket.

What if I told you that the Big 12 has already decided who is in, that this is all a dog and pony show?
I'll just leave that right there. :)
