It should help the AAC with more content moving conference networks. Downside is my cable bill goes higher to support another p5.

This is a great sign that espn is planning to do something substantial with us in our next contact. They are going to need decently rated content to replace those acc games. Is this where our markets and on field performance comes into play?

Once their network become official that should be the starting point for our negotiations. Maybe we don't need another network to bid on us to leverage a great deal. Maybe having the last valuable properties outside of byu and bsu is our advantage. Go Mike Aresco!

It's highly unlikely that this has any positive effect on future negotiations for the AAC.

Seriously this is great news with all the mediocre P5 games going to their own conference network ESPN2 almost becomes a defacto AAC network.

Well it has to. ACC time slots have to be filled and there's only one conference left with worthwhile east coast based content. Now has espn chosen the ACC over the big12 the way the did with the big East, Idk? The writing is on the wall for the big12. They are a dead conference walking now and guess what they can't fill those slots either. They either hold there noses and expand now with a decent sized eastern wing (4-6 teams) or die. Personally I hope Aresco goes all in now for deal big enough to require a gor (12-14 mil with yearly bumps). Then sit back and wait for big12 refuges .

Definitely opens more slots on the ESPN networks. Now it is becoming critical that ESPN lands the AAC.

Swofford has been trying for the last several years to get a real ACC TV Network with ESPN, who actually said they would start one by 2016 or would pay ESPN millions of $$ as a penalty (well, ESPN never started one up)...and now ESPN & Swofford are just kicking the can down the road till 2019.

If ESPN didn't want to start up an ACC TV Network prior to losing MILLIONS of subscribers over the last few years...I don't see ESPN starting up a real ACC TV Network in 2019 after ESPN loses millions more paying customers.

Wait till the fine print gets released...as I'm sure ESPN will promise another payment to the ACC if/when they don't start up a real linear ACC TV Channel by 2019.

Odds are it will be cheaper for ESPN to pay another penalty for not starting up the network by 2019 in exchange for extending the ACC deal will 2036.

The ACC schools would not have extended the GOR if that was the case. The ACC network will be starting digitally this August(which is the future anyway). The linear channel WILL begin in 2019 maybe sooner. The big 12 is done.

The Big 12 is done regardless of whether the ACC ever gets a channel. I think it's way too soon to say whether the linear channel "WILL" happen, as a whole lot can happen before 2019. The press release alone and partnership with ESPN on the online platform is enough of a win to cement the ACC as the 4th power conference though.

It's happening. They're using the SEC/ACC networks as tent poles to support one another. They'll be housed together and have a cross-conference alliance/partnership to provide quality content for both networks across all sports. It reduces the overhead costs to produce both through consolidation and geography. Think of the NFL or pro league models. Imagine the AFC/NFC. This is the direction things are moving.

Not only is the ACC cemented as the 4th power conference but now the big12's hope of stealing ACC programs in the future dead. Their own indecision has put them in the old big East's position. I think I have seen this play out a few years ago.

I've said it since the B12 realigned and never attempted to rebuild to the magic number. The indecision, bickering and finally inane excuse making for not advancing stabilizing measures sounds exactly like the football contingent of the Big East from 2003 - 2011/12.

I read somewhere that espn and the ACC had to redo there contract. What's to stop the AAC and Mike Aresco from at least approaching espn while things are moving along for not a look extension but a new contract. Before anyone criticise me just remember espn will now have very good time slots opening that have to be filled.

B12 let the networks tell them there was no appetite for another conference network, then ESPN went out and created the ACC Network. B12 needs to expand for the guaranteed TV contract money and work on getting the network after that. Getting TV partners to buy into the conference network upfront should not be a prerequisite, if they don't expand they are going to die. Everyone without a sure landing spot needs to wake up.

IMO this announcement does 2 things, it shows the Big12 presidents and AD’s that their inability to make a decision on expansion has painted them into a corner. Their inability to come to a consensus has limited their options to the G5, BYU, and in an extremely long shot Arizona and Arizona State, the ACC schools are now officially off the table.

The second thing is it should force the Big12 to decide on expansion once and for all and immediately invite who they feel brings the most value. If you’re an AAC school looking for an invitation I would say based on this latest development it’s now or never.

Even with that said, with or without expansion the Big12 is ripe for the poaching, not unlike the Big East from a few years back. IMO if they don't do something quickly to build a layer of stability their days as a power conference are numbered (until Texas and or Oklahoma bolt).

I agree. I think ESPN just played the B12. The B12 needs to make a bold move or prepare to be carved up. They can expand by 4, get a $1B dollar boost for the rest of the current contract, give the new schools reduced shares, and all current members would get a raise. They can then focus on laying the groundwork for a network and preparing to negotiate their next TV deal.
