Welcome Coastal!!!!

I spoke to a Coastal student from New Jersey during the Memorial Day weekend and we discussed the baseball season and the addition to SBC. He seemed excited. Definitely a worthy program!!!!

3-4 hour car ride for Boro fans should easily be attainable for both programs.

Well soon the honey moons over and reality sets in. Brace yourselves. The conference is pretty quick becoming intensely competitive. GS and App stunk up the place at first with all the negativity but thankfully that changed. With the accomplishment you may get a short reprieve but get ready for the Fun Belt folks.05-stirthepot

As a baseball fan, I was thrilled the day I heard Coastal was even being considered and many other Cajun fans were as well. Now we're downright ecstatic.

Welcome. I know you'll enjoy it here.

This is now acceptable for IA:

A Whopping 9,214 seat stadium,

How conference and NCAA standards have fallen. In 1995 the NCAA told Marshall they had to have a 30K seat stadium to even apply for MAC membership. At the time Marshall Stadium was 28,225, Marshall had to add 2K seats just to please the NCAA. Today the NCAA just let a school in IA with less than a 10K seat stadium.

Sorry if this POs people but I'm getting tired of being lumped in with schools with inadequate athletic facilities.

The National Champions are currently finalizing plans to expand their football stadium, which I'm sure was a term of their entry into our conference and the FBS. They won't be "lumped" into the same subdivision as mighty Marshall with their 100,000 seat stadium until 2018. Don't worry.

RE: Welcome Coastal !
As Gonzo said they will expand but membership is more than football. Can we compare the baseball stadium of the National Champs with Marshals stadium. From what have read I am not sure you even have one. I bet Coastal is really tired of being lumped in with a school without facilities. Or very poor ones at the least.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I'd advise just getting used to it. Those standards were changed years ago.

SBC Wise, we don't really care what sort of football facility Coastal plays in as long as they win games. Honestly, that's all that matters. If Marshall can't compete with programs with inadequate facilities, then that's a Marshall problem, not an NCAA problem.

RE: Welcome Coastal !
Naw, they don't even have an OCS for baseball. They use Appalachian Power Park, an A minor league stadium, and also share it with the University of Charleston.

Quote:Since 2006, it has been the home field for Marshall conference games, because the school does not have an adequate baseball facility on its campus located 50 miles (80 km) away in Huntington, West Virginia. It plays its non-conference games at the Kennedy Center Field near campus and at Linda K. Epling Stadium in Beckley, West Virginia. When West Virginia University moved from the Big East Conference to the Big 12 Conference its on campus baseball field likewise did not meet league standards, and WVU played its conference games there until a new taxpayer funded stadium was built on campus.

Wow, this guy just put Coastal on blast when the Herd plays baseball 50 miles away from campus??

I realize that it is football that stirs the drink, but I think Coastal's strength (for now) is the entirety of the athletics program. The Chants are solid across the board.

Nice response.

To answer his first question, no - the capacity isn't acceptable but we are committed to expanding by 2018. We have been working hard and have generated a lot of support in-state to get there. Hopefully we'll have some positive news by mid-August.

And let's not take into account that CCU didn't have football until 2003 (and enrollment around 7K?) with no idea (at that time) that just 13 years later they would get an FBS invite because, you know, that would seem reasonable to expect from a young program.
