That ranking would be the epitome of mediocrity

After losing arguably the best Head Coach in half a century and the best quarterback in school history, that's not bad. It's certainly progress and gives Norvell a chance to build, and that's all one can ask for.

Yeah, but we're #62 with a bullet. Let a few things come together and this can be a special team.

No way we FINISH the season at #62.

And in our crowd of skill position players, I see Sam Craft making a bigger impact on the court than on the field.

Fair enough.

I don't see losing reggis ball as a big setback for the defense. I know one old school legendary tiger DB who agrees. Looking forward to see if the defense can improve, because it must. We can't play defense like last year. You can't count on the offense to outscore opponents. At least not yet.

All the obvious offensive worries aside, we got a lot of returning talented playmakers at running back and wide receiver.

Ball has talent, don't get me wrong.....but I'm thrilled he's gone. Kid made some boneheaded, dirty plays.

You underestimate Sam. He played hurt most of last year.

My thoughts exactly. He was a hoss for the D & we will miss his tough consistency. Hope his successor is up to the task. The defensive backfield is also a concern. No one there was a lockdown defender & we need some guys to step up.

Hoping for a better running game than last year to take some pressure off Riley or whoever is the QB. I think the offense will have more originality, more misdirection but could be more prone to TOs as a attribute of a fast-paced offense. Will need a lot of drilled discipline for success but there are a lot of tools on offense - better than last season notwithstanding PL's high level play at times, especially on 3rd down. If these guys really come together we could see a 10-1 season or we could see 6-6 with untimely TOs & inconsistent play.

^this 100%. It's a shame our DC was frozen for most half before he decides to make adjustments. I don't think Fuente put together a good defensive staff for last season when he lost Odom.

replacing the defensive coordinator worked out better for Fuente than it did for Tommy West trying to replace Walton though

Scott wasn't very good but Fuente gave his buddy from Tulsa the DB job and only made it worse.

yeah I don't think Fuente really had a solid plan as far as defensive staff. He might have been looking to hop to another school anyway which he did

Yep sorry had to correct my post I meant to type Galen but put in Odom. Odom was a very solid DC but the defensive staff last year was meh.

Amazing the nitpicking of Justin since he left.. Without him and Paxton probably no bowl.

It isn't nitpicking. Norvell didn't retain any of them and Fuente only took Scott with him. Scott pretty much accepted a demotion

Also we are talking the defensive side of the ball. It's just my opinion that Fuente didn't put as much time into assembling a staff on defense after Odom left as he would on offense. He basically hired nothing but coaches who were not retained at their previous school or coming from a school who had low pay.

Norvell staff is composed of guys that were coaching in P5 conferences.
