Could LF do this for their turf? I remember a few of the Aug/Sept games that it smelled like a tire fire was going on

RE: LF upgrades
The last time the Park folks replaced the Legion Field turf, the old turf was used to replace the turf at Lawson Field. Maybe it will get another hand me down gift again.

Would UAB find a good use for it?

I don't think we're in a position to need to use used up hand-me-downs from Legion Field. I'm pretty sure with $22 million we'll be able to find the cash to buy new turf.

I'm thinking there might be other uses for 120 X 50+ yards of turf than a football facility. Some place UAB wants to look like grass but doesn't need mowing or trimming labor.

If UAB is in such dire straights that they can't keep 6000 square feet of grass cut then I'll be the first one to say maybe we should slow down on the football stuff.

I really believe the total grass area of the UAB campus is much greater than 6,000 sq ft. I'm thinking of the whole campus as having parcels where a low maintenance grass-like surface may be handy, not just grass for a football field.

Perhaps it won't look as good, but it might be worth not having to pay $10 per hour every week to keep trimmed, particularly in difficult to reach spaces..

We won't have to stoop to re-using old Legion Field grass.

If it got down to it I bet you would see Coach Clark & coaches cutting the grass.

Heck, I'd throw in a few weekends a year to chip in.

Perhaps he was suggesting re-use for an intermural field or band field. It would be perfectly acceptable for such a use if it allowed an additional facility to be installed. That field is still in pretty good condition, even with the weird sheen to it that XHCWB selected and seriously not worth the mental anquish of getting embarrassed or upset over.

I really don't think that's what he meant. If the band has a field they practice in that belongs to UAB that isn't the football facility, then yeah, obviously. But finding little patches here and there that are "too small" or "too numerous" to cut is low rent and cheap and UAB is not that kind of university.

That's actually not a bad idea. IIRC, there's supposed to be a turf field in the middle of our new track for the band. Speaking of, what's the status on the track facility?

Well Birmingham Southern is like two blocks from Legion. They are a great academic college and have baseball and basketball maybe they can turn their time to the field of legions that payed their dews. Maybe Legion can serve Southern for a few more years do they play Soccer at Southern (Birmingham Southern).

It does, but no one ever said it had to be completed before the football facility commences.

BSC already has an on-campus football stadium. UAB has used it for practice, numbers of times.
