Artist: George Michæl
Album: Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1
Track: "Freedom '90"
October 30, 1990 Columbia Records, Epic Records

Great song, great video from great album by great artist.

Models: Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Tatjana Patitz, Christy Turlington, and Cindy Crawford

Evangelista took some persuading before agreeing to appear in the video, saying, "He thought it would make us into a big deal, that it would be good for us. I was like, 'Please, we're here. We've already arrived!'" After speaking with Michael, she was convinced, and rearranged her schedule. In a 2015 Vanity Fair article, Evangelista reflected on her decision positively, saying, "Little did I know that to this day, when someone meets me for the first time, they bring up that video. That's what they remember. So yeah, George was right." An initial disagreement over their salaries was resolved when Annie Veltri, who represented Crawford, Evangelista, Campbell, and Patitz at Elite Model Management, made it clear that all of her clients would receive the same compensation—$15,000 a day.

Sorry Good Owl but when I saw the name George Michael I immediately thought of this guy.....not the singer.

Great, great song.

Here's a trivia note about the Curtis Loew song: According to Wikipedia, the original "pre-plane crash" (in Oct 1977) Lynyrd Skynyrd lineup with Ronnie Van Zant, only performed "Curtis Lowe" (recorded and released in 1974) once, live on stage. Ed King says, "The original version of the band only played 'Curtis Loew' one time on stage. We were playing in a basement in some hotel and thought we'd try it. We never played it again until the Tribute Tour with Johnny Van Zant."

When I got my 2CD Anniversary Hits disc, this one of the unbeknownst to me tunes I really liked off of it.

And then he ends up being gay...go figure. As far as his music goes...I liked a lot of jams off "Faith." Never bought it though....

I can't think of a bad cut on it. My wife and I were driving around in the country with it in the deck and it sounded great on a beautiful evening after a day of all day rain.

Anyhoo.....this song always makes me think of 'Blade Runner' (which I love). I'm pretty sure Vangelis did that soundtrack but this song reminds me of the flick.

Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond Part 2. (Fifth Track)

I haven't been here in a while. I used to listen to this on my Friday drive from Spandahlem to Kirschberg in the worst fog ever to see my bride to be. Played it as loud as I could get it and the music fed my concentration and determination. Curvy roads in dense forest through hills valleys and across the Mosel River through wine fields. I also remember blasting this album on the Autobahn on my way to Zurich to visit her sister who was married to an obnoxious Swiss guy. He met us on the outskirts of town and tried his best to loose us to his apartment. It was full throttle, full break, hard left and hard right the whole way with Pink Floyd as my concentration. I need to listen to that one bluesy guitar solo again!

Not a fan of his lifestyle, but just focusing on the songwriting, this guy really knows his craft. His songs are catalog, and will be played forever. That's hard to do, especially nowadays. As for "Faith", it is an incredible achievement of an album from a pure songwriting standpoint. His later albums show maturity as a songcrafter and a deft touch for the delicate lyric. And even his early stuff with Wham! showed a tremendous knack for effortless hook-writing. The guy has been effective his entire career. Not many can say that.

I don't remember enough or heard enough of his time with Wham! I mean, yeah, Wake Me Up.... was a big hit in the 80s but that is about all I remember from them.

I don't know much about the guy but he does have some good music to his credit. Here he is singing a timeless song and done very well. We might all take note of the song as the world seems to be spinning back to very bad economic times when this song was first sung.

Going to the beach in about a week. Chill is the word. This song has some really beautiful guitar along with some nice chill. I haven't a clue what the guy is singing about. Nor do I care as long as it is chill!

Originally recorded by The Velvet Underground in 1970 and written by the band's leader Lou Reed. The Cowboy Junkies have done well with their version.

I really enjoyed the quality of both the George Michael song and the Cowboy Junkies' cover of the Lou reed tune you posted, WWDog.

Dub Dub Dawg was one of my favorite posters in this thread for a long time. He caused me to buy several songs on iTunes I'd never heard until he posted them here. Then we didn't see him for awhile. I'm glad he's back.

It's why this is by far my favorite thread on this board. No message board smack. Even if it's a song you don't care for I never see anyone dogging someone out for their selection.

There's just so much good music out there we've never heard of. Even the coolest hipster in the world is gonna have some holes in their playlist when looked at by someone else.

This thread is what Rodney King had a dream of.

Thanks for the kind words. I'll try not to be gone so long again.

One of my favorite songs from back in the 70's. The guitar solo alone make it an instant classic. From the album A Space in Time way back in 1971. I wish there was a better version live. Oh well a pretty lady will have to do with this awesome music. Funny how the song seems to fit today's world even though it is 45 years old!

I really love this song and the way it is done Zucchero has the perfect voice for this song when paired with the cellos. My wife is so fond of this song, she wants it in every playlist I make. The following is a short explanation of the merging of the two cello artists and Zucchero to do this one song by Peter Gabriel. Followed by the song in it's entirety.

ZUCCHERO about 2CELLOS

No apologies required for making me watch a beautiful woman while a great song is playing in the background.

Great selection. Caused me to look and listen to this one afterwards. Btw, check out the bass player in this. I had to look it up. His name is Leo Lyons. Not so sure he isn't Flea's illegitimate father. Never saw a guy rock the bass like this guy back in the day. You can't help but watching Alvin Lee on guitar but I kept looking over at the bass player as he was pretty into it.

Glad you enjoyed the Cowboy Junkies. They are a group I found a few years back just surfing the net. This group has been deemed by some as the best group ever to come out of Canada. They have a bunch of songs of their own but the ones I find the most interesting are their remakes of some classics with their own distinctive twist. In particular, Blue Moon Revisited (particularly the live version which can be found on youtube) is my favorite version of the classic song and this song by Patsy Cline which has a heavy blues accent along with some French influence thrown in (the slide guitar is exquisite).

Enjoy!
