Well, LA Tech responds with a two-run shot of their own.

T3:

Stark: First pitch F-8.
Washam1: Called strike. Foul. "Airmails it high." Foul back. High & inside. "High chopper to short." 6-3.
Washam2: First pitch: "Check swing on the 0-2 pitch. He went. 0 & 1" ?? "Smoked up the middle, a base hit."

Lunceford: "Swing and a miss." ... "Swing and a miss." "Hit very high to right field. ... That ball is gone! ... The launching pad that is Pete Taylor park." 9-4.

Gladu: Low. Single through the left side.

Daigle: Ball. Called strike. "The 1-2 pitch: High and outside. 2 balls and 1 strike." Foul (2-2 now). "Swing and a miss. Kopycinski has to find it. Off-balance. He throws it into right field!" Grrrr!!! Runners at 1st & 3rd.

OG out to the mound to talk with JD.

Love: Low. Low & outside. Called strike. Ground it to 3rd. Fielder's choice out at 2nd (6-4) ends the inning. Whew!

9-4, heading to B3.

Get some more runs now, Rice. We might need them later!

Pet Peeve #1-- Jon was ahead 1-2 in the count and grooved a fastball? Why was that pitch anywhere near the zone?

Jon gives up 3 consecutive hits.

Kop is killing us defensively. Another strikeout wild pitch, and Hunter throws the ball into RF. Runners on 2B and 3B, two outs. And we've once again let LaTech back into the game-- both mentally and on the scoreboard. 03-banghead

B3:

Kop: First pitch "rocket to the right side for a base hit."
Warren: 3-2 count ... foul back ... low & outside. Walk.

New pitcher coming in: Graham Ahlrich. (JP said he was a left hander; LaTech's roster shows him as a right hander.)

Chandler: Bunts. "Floating it back to the mound." 1-4 sacrifice at first. Runners at 2nd & 3rd.
Proctor: IBB. Bases loaded. One out.

DiCaprio: Called strike. Grounds it left side. Force at home, then ball dropped. "Slow-moving" DiCaprio makes it to first.
Gray: First pitch 4-3 ends the inning. Grrr.

Rice leads, 9-4, after 3.

RE: Rice vs. LaTech (CUSA Tourney Game 1)
And Jon limits the damage to just the two runs. Unfortunately, all these errors and WPs has really run up his pitch count once again. Offense better not go into hibernation in this one.

Kopycinski first pitch single. Let's get at least one back!
Warren walked. Runners on 1B and 2B, no outs. Gotta bunt here with the meat of the order due up. Gotta capitalize.
New pitcher for LaTech...
Chandler successfully bunts both runners into scoring position. One out.
Proctor intentionally walked to load the bases. One out.
DiCapario forces Hunter at the plate. Ugh.
Gray first pitch ground out to 2B.
Hope that doesn't turn the momentum over to LaTech. Come on, Dup-- settle down!

Good guys lead 9-4 heading to the top of the fourth inning.

But it wasn't grooved down the middle. :-) Gotta find that middle ground that's not right down the middle.

No one is going to swing on a way inside 1-2 pitch, but they may on a breaking ball off the plate. Jon is simply not hitting his locations so far today.

Jon gets out of it, despite his 2nd hits batter and 3rd wild pitch (what's going on with Hunter?) as he gets two strikeoutsKKKKKKKK.

Wunderlich struck out.
Teykl first pitch fly out. Can't we show just a wee, tiny bit of patience?
Lewis lined single. Two outs.
Kopycinski single. Runners on 1B and 3B, two outs.
Warren RBI double! 02-13-banana Runners on 2B and 3B, two outs.
Chandler ground out to 2B.
Nice two-out rally.

Good guys lead 10-4 heading to the top of the fifth inning.

Question RE: Rice vs. LaTech (CUSA Tourney Game 1)
Thanks for the descriptive posts, everybody it has been unusually interesting to read through this particular game thread so far.

This is one weird, wild game
at a weird start time,
with a weird line score
...which should ultimately go in Rice's favor
as we are a school of weirdos, right?
Let's hope so. Go Owls!

I know we cannot count our chickens before they hatch, but at what point do we take Jon out of the game in case we need him this weekend? We have to win with the other guys at some point, might as well make it now.

Worst case Jon has a shorter outing and has extra rest for regionals if we do not win over the weekend.

You make sure you win the first game first. I'd have him go at least 6 innings. Remember, you can't risk eating up your bullpen either.
